"Ms Barrow." I hear a voice from behind me. I turn around there I see the principal, she's tall and boney. Her hair's always a mess.

"Do you realize the time?" She looks disappointed I pull out my phone checking it. Crap its 8:30 I was supposed to be in class in ago 20 minutes ago.

"Im sorry Im just on edge today."

"Since its choosing time I'll let you go with a warning." I hated this time a year. It shouldn't have a name and it shouldn't be normal. There killing innocent people for no reason. So many people have died, almost half of our city is dead.

"Thank you." I grabbed my bag and ran to class. When I got there I could tell we weren't going to learn anything. Everyone was texting family telling them the love them and hugging friends. Some where crying even the teachers eyes were red from crying. I got in pulled out my phone and sent my mom a message.

"I love you mom, I know you say it wont be us but just in case I wanted to just say that. You are one of my best friends and the person Im closest too. Hopefully this will be over soon."

After I send it to her I get out a pen and doodle on my paper to keep my mind off it. An announcement on the intercoms comes on.

"Good morning students and teachers. We just wanted to thank you for everything you've done and if one of y'all are chosen we are sorry. At this time we encourage you to put on the news and wait for this years people"

The teacher turned on the tv and turned to the news channel. There was a clock on the bottom of the screen giving us the time you choose between people. The news anchor was wearing a red suit, this was part of the tradition. Every year all the rich people wear red to signal the blood shed.

"Hello world it is time for this years choosing! What fun!" The guy said with a bright smile on his face. "Now without further ado lets see who's on the list! Christy Hope, Peter Darell, Diana Ross, and lastly Iris Barrow"

My heart dropped, as I heard my name from the tv. Everyone turned towards me with horror knowing that I was going to die. I froze. I didn't know what to do. I got up and ran to the bathroom trying not to cry. I locked myself in one of the doors and began balling. I hear the huge doors to the wall open. Their coming.

The troopers march in and start looking. They are 8 foot tall with robot like features. I hear screams as people hide away as not to be one of the people taken for the game.

BANG! The door to the bathroom swung. I covered my mouth in the hopes of being quiet. I get a text and see its from Asher saying he's in the bathroom. I open the door quietly and run out of it. I jump into his arms and sob into his shoulder. He hugs me tightly trying not to cry himself. He sets me down and sends me another text.

"We need to hide you, your mom, Levi and Ruth." He looks down at me comfortingly. He knows just how to calm me down. I nod up to him as he picks me up and carries me out me makes sure that none of the tropes are around before running out of the school and to his car. There Ruth and Levi are. Ruth is hugging Levi as he whimpers into her.

He sees me and goes to hug me his glasses are fogging and his nose runny. I reach back and hug him. I go back and crawl in between them

"Time to go pick up your mom." He steps on the gas. He weaves between cars getting out of the parking lot as quick as he can. We drives 20 miles over the speed limit. Getting there within 5 minutes. He runs in to prevent the risk of them seeing me. We wait for a few minutes before. He runs out with a box full of food and clothes. My mom by his side. She gets in the car trembling. I tell her everything will be alright, even though we have no clue what will happen. No one has successfully hiding from them.
