"Stop we have to help him!" I told Asher
"No we can't risk it, not now!" He said continuing to scale his way up the wall.
"Asher he's your friend! He helped us!" I yell.
"Ugh fine!" He hands me to Levi him almost over the fence. Asher jumps down picking Dominic up and helping him up the wall.
Levi helped me over the fence waiting for everyone else. He helped Ruth over the gate, then waited for Asher and Dominic.
Once we were all over it we bolted out of there, Levi assisting me in running, and Asher holding Dominic up. We all ran to some dark alley to catch our breathe. Huffing in the fresh air, we had always been used to the awful air of The Poor City.
Our attention turning to Dominic, we covered his wound.
"It doesn't look that it would be fatal, it will hurt but you should be able to survive it." Ruth stated, she had been studying to become a nurse.
I looked around trying to find our next plan to escape. Finding a trashcan I rummaged through it and found a wallet with $100 in it, a map of the city, and a pocket knife.
I brought back my finds. Levi took the map and looked for where we were. We discussed what the $100 should be for.
"We should use it for transportation." Levi suggested.
"Everyone in this city knows who we are we can't trust that, I think we should use it for food." Ruth chimed in still caring for Dominic's gunshot wound.
"Theres nothing we can get that's only $100 here, not anything of any value to us anyway. I say we save it and just flee." We continued to debate for a few minutes.
Asher interrupted "Guys we need to start moving, their going to be looking for us." Ruth finished wrapping up Dominic before helping him up. Levi lead the way now knowing all the back ways.
Other then the occasional stop to give me and Dominic a break we made good progress. We had probably walked at least nine miles. Avoiding highways, many cities, and crowded streets. We hadn't seen a single person. Or car. Or anything really. It seemed deserted. None the less we kept walking.
Five hours had passed we had sixteen miles already. We could start to see the wall back home. The only thing stopping us is that we would have to cross a busy walkway. We had heard everything we know about the place on the news or from tales growing up.
Decided to brave it we were only a mile before the turn that took you to the walkway. All of us we terrified but we hoped that since how busy it is we'd just blend in.
Only a few feet away from the turn we stopped and took a deep breathe. Asher grabbed the pocket knife that I had found in that trash.
"Ok guys you ready?" Asher lead us to the end of it.
We all nodded. As we turned the corner we were all confused. Not one was there. But what about what we had heard? Maybe we were on the wrong street? Or maybe there was a party or gathering everyone went to during this time.
We rechecked the map and we were in the right place. Waling over we searched the place. It was risky but what if there was something to help us. But no. No one. Not a single soul, or thing. It was a ghost town.
