Ruth took out a lighter from her pocket and flicked it. The tiny flame barley helped but it pointed us down the tunnel. We kept walking hoping to get back home.
As we reached the end we could see a door. We were finally free! Getting excited we started to run. The door was tiny as tiny as the door we went through to get to the tunnel.
Asher went to open it, of course. We couldn't have escape that easily. I pulled out the key and stuck it into the key hole. It didn't open, I flipped it upside down and tried it again. Yet again it didn't unlock. I studied the door it had a weird shape to it.
I took the bag off my shoulders and rummaged through it. Pulling out the lipstick I had found I looked at the bottom of. I put it in and twisted it. The click of the door relieving us all. We opened it and climbed out.
Though the air wasn't fresh anymore, it was such a lovely thing to inhale. Taking big gulps into our lungs. We were finally free! But we had to help everyone else. What would happen to them if we ran away? I couldn't put that many people in danger.
"So what do we do about the government now?" I hated to ruin the mood, we were happy to finally be freed.
"Um I don't know, but I can assure you they'll be pissed at us," Asher scoffed taking the lipstick and locking up the door, "Maybe if we seal off all the exits they won't be able to get to us." He suggested.
"We have to kill them. Its the only way." Dominic stated. Although we knew he was right we hated the idea.
"Yeah, theres no way to guaranteed out safety or the safety of everyone else," Agreeing with Dominic, Ruth sat down. The horror story was not over.
"We have to get everyone to revolt! It would give us better odds!" Levi tried staying possible but it was hard. After everything we've gone through. Getting back home only to have to go back to that god awful place yet again.
"I know around the place, I know the lay out, I know where everyone should be and what rooms are what I can guide y'all" Dominic sounded ashamed almost saying that.
"Ok then how should we get it around to everyone without them catching onto us?"
"Disguises, we'll tell the people who we are but hide our full identities. Once were safe we'll share them and the book." Asher spoke confidently.
"I have stuff at my house, I can take y'all there and change up everyone's looks easily." Ruth picked herself up. She held Levi's hand before we started to head over to her house.
We went unrecognized for most of the trip. A few people stopped us but it was more just quick hellos. We reached her house and went to her room.
"Ok I know everyone here loves there look but we have to change it." I had been growing my hair out for so long I hated that the reason I couldn't anymore was the government.
"I have color I could cut hair anything you want that could make it harder to spot you. Who's first?" She asked. Ruth had gone to a few cosmetology classes while in high school.
"I want to get it over with." I wiped one of my tears of my face. I know it's stupid to cry over hair but it made me have confidence. It had been the way I expressed myself for years now.
"Just shave all of it off." I knew I would probably be the most recognizable since I was the one chosen for the game.
"Ok I know this is hard for you but I promise you'll love it. And it'll grow back fast." She hugged me comforting me before shaving all of it off. My roots had grown out so instead of my white hair that I've been caring for was a dirty muddy brown.
We all took turns getting our hair fixed. I got a buzz cut and kept my hair brown. Levi got his natural curls straighten, it was weird seeing him without them. Dominic also got his straightened. He also shaved off his mustache and beard. Asher got his cut into a soft mullet. And Ruth got hers shortened to a pixie cut almost and dyed it blonde.
We didn't have to change our style though since we all had very similar ones. We all wore baggy on baggy clothes. Normally paired with combat boots or Converse.
Ruth also pulled out some mask and put them on. We made a rule we could never go anywhere with them off. To protect us and everyone else. We decided the next day we would go ahead and start sharing the women's book and her side of story.
