Chapter 10: The Sacrifice

The Salvatore siblings walk downstairs to the tomb and walk over to where Katherine is. Damon says, "Let's do it." They lift the door of the tomb open and Katherine says, "Please, come on in. There's plenty of room for all of us." Damon says, "I'd rather poke my eyes out." Katherine says, "Mm. They're such pretty eyes." Ava says, "We're here for the moonstone." Damon says, "Feel like tossing it over?" Katherine says, "Tell you what. You get your little witch to hocus-pocus me out of here and you can have whatever you want." Ava says, "I thought you liked it in here. Nice and safe, where Klaus can't get to you." Katherine says, "I've had time to reconsider." Damon says, "Meaning you're hungry." Katherine says, "I'm starving, Damon. And dirty. But above all, I'm bored. At least running from Klaus wasn't boring. So, here's the deal. You get me out of here... you get the moonstone and I'll disappear from Mystic Falls forever. Let me know what you decide." Later, they go to Elena's and knock on the door. Elena opens the door to see Ava and Damon. Ava says, "Hey. Uh, can we talk?" Elena says, "Why?" Damon says, "We went to see Katherine." Elena says, "Come on in." They walk into the house. They explain to Elena what Katherine said and Elena says, "You don't believe her, do you?" Damon says, "No, of course not. We just want the moonstone." Ava says, "According to Rose's friend Slater there's a way to destroy the spell that Klaus wants to break." Damon says, "No spell, no doppelganger sacrifice. Ergo, you live." Elena says, "How do you destroy it?" Ava says, "By releasing it from the moonstone." Elena says, "How do you guys even know this is gonna work?" Damon says, "Because we have a crafty witch on our side." Elena says, "You discussed it with Bonnie." Ava says, "She agreed to do anything she could to help us." Elena says, "It's Katherine who has the moonstone. She's not gonna give it to you." Ava says, "We're gonna get it from her." Damon says, "Well, what she means to say... is that we will pry it from her cold dead hand if we have to." Ava says, "Bonnie just needs to find a way to release the seal long enough... for us to get in, get the moonstone and get out in time for her to return it." Elena says, "Wow, I mean, it sounds like you guys already have it all planned out." Damon says, "Yep. We're awesome." Elena says, "Except for one thing. I don't want you to do it." Ava says, "What are you talking about, Elena? We don't have a choice." Elena says, "What about Klaus?" Ava says, "We'll find him right after we get the moonstone." Elena says, "Is that before or after he kills everyone that I care about, including the two of you?" Ava says, "Elena, if we can de-spell the moonstone, we can save your life." Elena says, "I know. Everybody keeps saying that." Elena walks away. Later, Ava and Damon are in their living room with Bonnie and Jeremy. Bonnie says, "I might be able to lower the tomb spell long enough for you to get in there and grab the moonstone from Katherine." Jeremy says, "How? It took both you and your grams last time. And look what happened to her." Bonnie says, "I'm well aware of what happened. I've learned a few new things." Jeremy says, "Bonnie." Bonnie looks at Ava and says, "How will you get it?" Ava says, "She hasn't been feeding. She's weaker. We're not." Bonnie says, "You wouldn't be underestimating her, would you?" Damon says, "It's a plan. Is it perfect? Pfft. What plan is?" Jeremy says, "Let me do it. I've got my ring. I could get in, get out. No spells necessary." Damon sarcastically says, "Gee, thanks, you 16-year-old child. Why didn't we think about that? Why are you even here?" Bonnie says, "Maybe I can help better the plan. Do you have anything that belongs to Katherine?" Damon looks at Ava. Ava leaves the room, and she comes back with a picture of Katherine, and she says, "This belonged to Katherine. Found it with her things after I thought she was dead, but it was hers." Bonnie grabs the picture and places it in a bowl and she drips water on it and fire appears. Bonnie starts chanting and Damon says, "What will this do?" Bonnie says, "I can turn the metal to ash. Blow the ashes on her... and it'll incapacitate her for a minute or two. Long enough for you to get the stone and get out." Moments later, Ava and Damon are arranging weapons to take with them, and Ava says, "So, we have to get the torches." Damon says, "Alaric's stake guns are in my trunk. Bonnie?" Bonnie says, "Go ahead. I'm almost done." Ava walks away with Damon behind her. Later, Ava and Damon are outside of the tomb when Bonnie walks up to them and she says, "Sorry, I'm late. I had to grab the Grimoire from home." Damon says, "Jeremy couldn't take the pressure, huh?" Bonnie says, "He said he'd be here." Ava and Bonnie then start heading down into the tomb and as Ava puts the weapons on the ground, she looks over to see the moonstone out of the tomb. Ava says, "What the hell?" Bonnie says, "Is it the moonstone?" Katherine appears and says, "I hate to interrupt... but today's just been full of surprises." Ava and Bonnie see that Katherine has a hold of Jeremy and Jeremy says, "I'm sorry. I took some powder." Katherine says, "Don't worry. I know that he's wearing his ring. So, no matter how many times I kill him he'll just keep coming back for more. So, I'm gonna be in the back playing with my new little toy. And you guys just give me a holler when you got the tomb open." Katherine takes Jeremy away and Ava and Bonnie look at each other panicked on what to do. Ava and Bonnie then light the torches as Ava says, "Where the hell's Damon?" Bonnie says, "We can't wait. We have to get him out of there." Ava says, "She's fed. She has her strength back." Bonnie says, "We still have what's left of the ash. Do you think you can get close enough?" Bonnie hands Ava the ash and Ava says, "I don't have any choice." Bonnie says, "It's gonna take me some time." Ava says, "How long?" Bonnie says, "I don't know. A while." Ava says, "Just get me in there as soon as you can." Bonnie then starts chanting and the torches start growing bigger and Katherine appears with Jeremy, and she says, "Ohh. Something's happening." Jeremy says, "Bonnie, no. You have to stop her. She's not strong enough!" Katherine says, "Or maybe she is." Ava sees Bonnie's nose bleeding and she worriedly says, "Bonnie." Jeremy says, "You have to stop her." Ava hears a thud, and she turns to see Jeremy on the ground, and she looks back at Bonnie and she grabs her shoulders and says, "You need to stop. Bonnie. Bonnie!" Bonnie then falls down and she's unresponsive. Ava kneels next to her and says, "Bonnie. Bonnie, wake up, please. Bonnie, wake up!" Ava shakes Bonnie and Bonnie opens her eyes. Katherine says, "Yes, please. Because I'm still in here." Bonnie sits up and Ava softly says, "You, okay? You alright?" Ava helps Bonnie up as Bonnie says, "It didn't work. I'm not strong enough. Even with help, I can't do it." Katherine says, "Ahh, that's too bad, and I'm still hungry." Katherine then bites into Jeremy's neck and Ava speeds into the tomb and rips Katherine off of Jeremy and she looks at him and says, "Go!" Jeremy's safe in Bonnie's arms, but Jeremy feels guilty because now Ava's trapped in the tomb with Katherine. Katherine smiles at Ava and Ava rolls her eyes. Later, Ava hears Elena call her name and as she walks to the entrance, she hears Damon say, "Don't you dare." Elena says, "Ava's in there, Damon. How could you let this happen?" Damon scoffs and says, "What are you talking about? I was too busy saving you from your crazy kamikaze mission." Elena says, "You didn't even have to go after the moonstone in the first place." Damon says, "It was the right call, Elena." Elena angrily says, "Right call? How is any of this the right call? Damon, let go of me! Damon, let go of me. Let go of me! Please." Damon says, "You done?" Ava walks up where she can see Damon and Damon looks at her and says, "Of all the idiot plans, Ava... I'll find a way to get you out." Ava says, "I know you will, but I can handle myself. Bonnie has the moonstone. Work with her. And try to figure out how to de-spell it." Damon says, "You martyr yourself into a tomb and I get partnered with a semi-competent witch. Wonderful." Ava says, "Keep Elena away from here." Damon says, "Yeah, 'cause that'll be easy." Ava says, "Promise me... no matter what happens... you'll protect her." Damon says, "Promise." Ava nods and Damon walks away. Katherine appears behind Ava, and she says, "That right there was the biggest mistake you've ever made." Ava turns around and she walks past Katherine with a sigh.
