Chapter 13: Daddy Issues

Ava's in her living room with Damon and Damon says, "You brought back John Gilbert? That was your big save Elena move?" Ava has her arms crossed and she says, "I went to go look for Isobel and I got John instead. He said he could help us and we're desperate." Damon says, "We're not that desperate, Ava the guy tried to barbecue me." Ava says, "Damon, Bonnie's new witch friend is working with Elijah. So, we have to assume that the moonstone was never destroyed. Elena is putting all of her faith in to some deal that she made with Elijah to keep everyone safe. I mean, do you trust Elijah? 'Cause I don't. He's an Original. He can't be trusted. It's not like we could just go up and kill him because apparently, he can't die." Damon says, "Still waiting for the part where John Gilbert's the answer." Ava says, "He knew about the sacrifice. Isobel told him. He said he knew of a way to keep Elena safe." Damon says, "And how do we do that?" Ava says, "He's not talking. At least not to me, anyway." Damon says, "Great work, Ava. Top notch. As if I didn't have enough problems." Damon walks away and Ava says, "I'm sorry about Rose." Damon looks at Ava and says, "Whatever, I knew the woman for... five minutes." Ava says, "You cared about her after... five minutes." Damon says, "Fine. Yes, I care about her. It means, I'm changing and evolving in to a man capable of greatness." Damon walks away. Ava softly smiles because that's what she wants for Damon is to change. To have some humanity. Ava's phone then vibrates, and she checks it to see a text message from Caroline saying, "911 Now." Later, Ava's at Caroline's and she knocks on the door. Caroline opens the door and Ava worriedly says, "What's going on?" Caroline says, "Tyler knows about you and Damon. He knows that Damon killed Mason. I didn't say a word." Ava sighs and says, "It's that woman, Jules. She had a run-in with Damon." Caroline sighs and says, "Tyler was so upset. The look on his face he was so betrayed." Ava says, "Wow. This is bad." Caroline says, "You're not gonna tell Damon, are you?" Ava says, "No, he wants to kill him, he thinks all werewolves should die, and he's not wrong to think that, Caroline. I mean, what if Tyler tries to retaliate? He has every right to. He can get himself killed." Caroline says, "Well, we're not gonna let that happen. We have to get to him and reason with him before he does something stupid. You have to talk to him. Just try to explain, you know, you always know the right things to say. Okay, he and I... we're friends." Ava sighs and nods. Later, Ava appears in the Lockwood study and as Tyler senses Ava he goes to run, but Ava speeds in front of him. Ava says, "I'm not gonna hurt you. I just wanna talk." Tyler says, "Then why did you break in?" Ava says, "Would you have let me in otherwise?" They hear Carol say, "Tyler?" As Tyler goes to say something, Ava grabs Tyler by the throat and slams him against the wall. As Tyler struggles against Ava's hold, Ava whispers, "Shh. Not a word." Carol says, "Tyler? I'm leaving for the memorial." Carol leaves. Ava then releases her hold on Tyler and says, "Maybe we're getting off on the wrong foot here." Tyler says, "What happened to Mason?" Ava says, "Tyler, there's a lot for us to talk about." As Tyler goes to attack Ava, Ava grabs him and says, "I wouldn't do that. Without a full moon, you're no match for me." Ava lets go of Tyler and Tyler sits on the edge if the couch, while Ava sits on the edge of the desk. Ava says, "Look, about Caroline, no matter what her flaws are... when push comes to shove, you gonna want that girl on your side. She's your friend. Stop being a dick to her." Tyler says, "I thought vampires hated werewolves." Ava says, "That's some sort of leftover idea from another time. It doesn't have to be that way anymore. We go to the same school. We have the same friends. We keep the same secrets. This can work, Tyler. I mean, it's your home. It's my home too. I want this to work." As Tyler nods, Tyler's phone vibrates. As Tyler goes to answer the phone, he says, "Help. Help." Ava grabs the phone from Tyler hanging up and she says, "Whose number was that, hmm? Damn it, Tyler. I'm trying to save your life. Can't you see that?" Tyler says, "You wanna be friends, great. We're friends. Will you go now?" Ava says, "Look, I don't know what else to say to you, Tyler. I came back to this town because I wanted a life. I wanted to exist where I could have friends and where I could build a family. I have that here. We can both have that." Ava's phone vibrates and Ava sees it's Caroline and she answers the phone. Ava says, "Hey. Everything okay?" A female voice who isn't Caroline says, "That depends. How badly do you wanna keep her alive?" Ava says, "Who is this?" The woman says, "Ask your brother. Where's Tyler?" Ava says, "Jules? Where's Caroline?" Jules says, "You made a mistake, Ava. I'm gonna give you a chance to fix it." Ava demands, "Where is she?" Jules says, "Right here. Want proof?" Ava winces when she hears Caroline scream in pain. Tyler says, "What's happening?" Ava says, "Hurt her again and you're dead." Jules says, "I hurt her again and she's dead. Bring Tyler to me. The clearing by Wickery Falls. You have 20 minutes until she dies." Jules hangs up and Ava's pissed and worried at the same time. Later, Ava arrives in the woods with Tyler and Jules says, "I know you're out there." Ava shows herself with her arm latched onto Tyler's and she glares at Jules and says, "Where's Caroline?" Jules says, "Locked up tight." Ava says, "Let her go and I'll release Tyler. Doesn't have to get any messier than it already has. I'm not your enemy, Jules." Jules says, "It's a little late to be waving a white flag don't you think?" Ava says, "You need to leave town. No one else has to get hurt." Jules says, "I'm not leaving without Tyler." Ava says, "Tyler's free to make his own decisions as soon as you release Caroline." Damon appears and walks up beside his sister and says, "My sister the peacemaker. Since Ava got here before me, I'm gonna let her try it her way, before I resort to my way which is a little bloodier. So, give us Caroline." Jules says, "Let go of Tyler." Damon says, "Give us Caroline. Without a full moon, it's not an even fight and you know it. We will take you." Jules says, "I'm not so sure about that, tough guy." Jules whistles and a bunch of werewolves surround them. Jules says, "Let's try this again. Give us Tyler." Damon looks at Tyler and says, "You heard her. Go. Get over there." Ava lets go of Tyler and he walks over to stand next to Jules. A werewolf says, "Which one of you killed Mason?" Damon says, "Uh, that'd be me." The werewolf says, "Boys. Make sure that one suffers." Damon looks at Ava's worried face and he says, "We can take them." Ava says, "I don't know about that." Damon says, "Well, then..." Damon speeds over to Jules going to attack her, but she jumps away. As the rest of the werewolves go to attack Ava with fire, she speeds behind one, trying to burn the werewolves. Ava then starts snapping werewolves' necks. As Ava walks toward a werewolf, they try to shoot a stake at her, but she catches it with a smirk. Ava then starts fighting off more werewolves and as the werewolf who tried to stake her tries to shoot her again, she catches the stake and throws it back at the werewolf, the stake landing in its neck. Then Ava gets stabbed in the back with a stake and she grunts and falls to her knees. Then suddenly all the werewolves are grabbing their heads in pain and Ava looks up to see a man and the man says, "Elijah made a promise to Elena. I'm here to see it's upheld. You need to go. Get out of here. Now." The three of them walk away. Later, as Ava walks Caroline to her door, Ava says, "So, is your mom home?" Caroline says, "No, she's at work." Ava says, "I can come in if you want me to." Caroline walks into her house and she says, "I'm fine, Ava." Ava says, "You don't have to pretend with me. Anybody would be upset after what you went through tonight." Caroline softly says, "I'm okay. And I'm not... girly little Caroline anymore. I can handle myself." Ava nods with soft smile and says, "I know you can." Caroline says, "I just really wanna go shower, so..." Ava nods and says, "Okay." Caroline softly smiles and says, "Good night." Ava says, "Goodnight." Caroline closes the door and Ava sighs not really wanting Caroline to be alone tonight and she gets an idea. Later, as Ava goes to Elena's she overhears Elena's conversation with John. John says, "I'm sorry about earlier." Elena says, "Enough already. I don't want you here and I can't make that anymore clear." John says, "I didn't come here to fight with you, Elena." Elena says, "Yeah, I know. You're here to protect me. Got in. Get in line." John says, "I thought you might want this. It was your mother's." Elena says, "Isobel?" John says, "No. Your mother, Miranda. I remember her wearing it when she was young. I found it in a box with some things that your dad left me. Here. It's yours now. Miranda and Grayson... were your parents, Elena. And I know, I'm nothing to you. You have no reason to believe me or trust me. I've done so many horrible things. But when you lost your parents I lost my brother. My family. I lost my way. And I'm probably never going to make things right with you, I know that but... I'm gonna do everything I can to protect you and protect this family." John walks away and Ava makes herself known. Ava says, "Elena?" Elena looks over to see Ava and she rushes over to Ava and wraps her arms around her neck. Elena sniffles, "Are you okay?" Ava says, "I'm fine." Elena says, "Did you hear that?" Ava nods and Elena continues to say, "I don't believe him, Ava. I just don't. What happened tonight? How's Caroline?" Elena pulls away and Ava says, "I could use your help." Elena nods. Later, Ava goes back to Caroline's with Elena and Bonnie with her. As Ava knocks on Caroline's door, Caroline opens the door with a smile and Ava says, "Hey." Caroline says, "Hi. What's going on?" Ava says, "I was a bit worried about you. After everything you went through tonight." Caroline says, "I'm fine." Ava says, "Well, good, but just in case I, uh, brought some backup." Ava moves out the way and Elena and Bonnie show themselves. Elena says, "We're gonna slumber it." Bonnie softly smiles and says, "We haven't done it in ages." The girls group hug and Caroline sobs happy to have her friends. Elena looks at Ava grateful for her and mouths, "I love you." Ava mouths back, "I love you." As Ava goes to leave, Caroline says, "Ava, wait!" Ava looks at Caroline and says, "Yeah?" Caroline softly says, "Could you stay too? I mean, you're one of my best friends and I wouldn't be able to control my vampire side without you." Ava softly smiles and says, "Sure." Ava walks into the house. Later, Ava's in Caroline's room borrowing a pair of pjs from Caroline as she, Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie gather on Caroline's bed eating junk food watching Gossip Girl. Elena's laying her head on Ava's head with a soft smile as she watches Ava, Caroline, and Bonnie laugh. Caroline softly smiles as she can't thank Ava enough for cheering her up and she's really grateful to have Ava as a friend and she wouldn't know what to do without her.
