Chapter 15: The Dinner Party

Ava's out on the dock tossing rocks onto the lake watching them skit across the water. Ava's phone rings and it's Damon. Ava says, "Hello." Damon says, "Well, I showered. I shaved. Had breakfast. Very relaxed." Ava softly says, "That makes one of us." Damon says, "I did hear one piece of good news though. Tyler Lockwood ran away from home last night." Ava says, "How do you know?" Damon says, "Well, I heard it from Sheriff Forbes, who heard it from a very distraught Carol Lockwood thus, ending our werewolf chapter, bringing us to..." Ava says, "Killing Elijah." Damon says, "Exactly." Ava says, "Well, it's not going to be easy. He's crafty." Damon says, "Well, I've got a crafty little dagger." Ava says, "He's an Original. We don't know what all that encompasses." Damon says, "Oh, trust me, Ava I'm gonna dot all my Ts. I don't want any surprises." Ava says, "Wow, Damon, tell me you're actually gonna be careful for once?" Damon says, "Yes, Ava, I've become you. How tragic for both of us. Got to run. I have a murder to plan. Busy day." Damon hangs up. Ava looks over at the cabin to see Elena reading more of Jonthan Gilbert's journals and she sighs thinking about how she's gonna save Elena. Ava leaves the dock and walks into the cabin and takes off her jacket tossing it on the chair. Elena softly says, "Are you still mad?" Ava scoffs and says, "Yeah, I'm still mad." Elena says, "We had a difference of opinion, Ava we're not always gonna agree on everything." Ava says, "Elena, you've agreed to sacrifice yourself to Klaus. To say that we have a difference of opinion is the understatement of the century." Elena says, "You would know." Ava scoffs and says, "What does Jonathan Gilbert have to say?" Elena says, "A lot. It's insane the things he wrote in his journal that he kept from the Founding families. Stuff that nobody knows, stuffs that... you never told me." Ava looks through the journal and reads about the part where she kills Jonathan Gilbert. Ava nods and says, "We were, uh... We were angry at the Founding families for what they did to Katherine. We wanted revenge. I didn't know about Jonathan Gilbert's ring yet. I didn't know that he would... That he would survive." Elena says, "He describes you as a monster." Ava says, "That's because I was. I want you to know the truth. But I want you to hear it from me. In the weeks after I became a vampire, I relished in it. I took it to the darkest place I could." Flashback to where Avangeline was draining multiple women in her living room. Avangeline looks over at the other woman with blood around her mouth and a mess of blood staining the top of her undergarments and says, "Who's next?" A woman says, "Me, I'm next." Another woman says, "Me, you promised me." Avangeline looks over at the woman who's playing the piano and says, "What about you? You know if you don't pick up the tempo you're gonna lose your head. Snap. Snap." As the woman picks up the tempo, Avangeline bites into the brunette's neck draining her blood. Avangeline hears her brother say, "Company, sister?" Avangeline pulls away from the woman and looks over at her brother with a smirk and says, "I brought enough to share." Avangeline pushes one of the women towards Damon. Damon angrily says, "Are you mad bringing them here when the entire town is hunting us?" Avangeline says, "Damon, if you're worried about the Founding families please don't be. They're all dead or about to be." Avangeline continues to drain the blood of the brunette. Avangeline feels her brother rip her away from the woman, compelling her, "Leave this place. Never think of it again." Avangeline says, "Damon, don't be like this. I'm just having some fun." Damon says, "Staying alive is more fun, Avangeline. We have to be more careful than this. More clever. Like Katherine was." Avangeline scoffs and says, "Look what that got her." Damon says, "I'm done here. With you. I'm leaving town." Damon bristle pasts Avangeline when Avangeline speeds in front of Damon grabbing his shoulders saying, "You hate me. I know. I know. An eternity of misery and on and on, I know. But you don't have to leave town. Damon, I'll do better. I promise." Damon says, "No... you will get us killed. I'd rather leave you to do that to yourself."  Damon walks away. Flashback over. Ava says, "I wasn't myself then. I was full of guilt. What I did to my father, to my brother. I had to turn it off. It was the only way I could survive." Elena says, "It sounds like you were Damon." Ava scoffs and says, "I was worse. For weeks I kept spiraling. I was completely driven by the desire for blood. Hunt, prey, kill. That was all I knew." Elena says, "How come no one caught on to what you were doing?" Ava says, "Well, there was a war going on. The thing about wartime... Endless, anonymous blood supply."
