Chapter 16: The House Guest

Elena bursts out of Ava's bathroom and says, "Ava, we're late for school." Ava smiles and says, "Let's be later." Elena says, "Ava, it's school. Remember that thing that we keep forgetting about?" Ava wraps her arms around Elena and Elena says, "Hey." Ava says, "School?" Ava pulls Elena into a kiss and then pulls slightly away and says, "Doesn't ring a bell." As Ava hoists Elena into her arms, Elena says, "Av... Ava. Okay, five minutes. Only for five minutes." Ava pushes Elena down onto the bed with her on top of her and says, "Five minutes." Ava goes back to kissing Elena. Later, after Ava's and Elena's make out session, Ava's downstairs in the kitchen drinking coffee when she hears Elena struggling and she walks out into the hallway to find Damon having Elena against the wall with his hand around her throat. Ava says, "What the hell's going on here?" Damon lets go of Elena and Elena says, "I don't know, you tell me. Is Katherine in the tomb or not?" Ava looks upstairs thinking it was Katherine who she was kissing not Elena. Ava speeds into her room and pushes Katherine against the wall with her hands on her throat. Elena says, "What are you doing?" Ava angrily says, "How could you do this?" Elena says, "Ava, you're hurting me!" Ava angrily raises her voice and says, "Stop it, Katherine!" Katherine says, "Stop what?" Ava looks over to see Katherine and Ava immediately let's go of Elena. Katherine looks at Elena with a smile and says, "It's getting really easy being you." Elena glares at Katherine. Moments later, Damon joins them, and Elena angrily says, "What is she doing here?" Damon says, "When we killed Elijah, it broke the compulsion and freed the bitch from the tomb." Ava says, "How's that possible?" Katherine says, "He's an Original. They have all sorts of special skills." Elena says, "I don't want you here. Get her out of here." Katherine says, "You need me, Elena. You all do." Ava says, "Like hell." Katherine says, "We all want the same thing. Klaus dead. Yet here you all are, running around like chickens with their heads cut off." Elena says, "I don't need your help and I don't want it." Katherine says, "And that's incredibly stupid of you. Do you know where Klaus is? When he's coming? What he looks like?" Damon says, "If you know something, say it or get out." Katherine says, "Fine, then I'll just go to the Grill and have some lunch. Maybe Aunt Jenna's free for a bite." Later, Ava and Elena arrive at school. They get out of the car and Elena says, "Why is she still here? She was free." Ava says, "She wants what we want... Klaus dead. Maybe she sees us as her only chance." Elena says, "Or maybe she's trying to lure you and Damon back into her web. I want her gone." Ava walks over to Elena and grabs her hand, she says, "Yeah, so do I. But you're right, she's staying. Shouldn't we at least try to figure out why?" As they start walking, Elena says, "How? All she does is lie." Ava says, "Look, I hate it as much as you do, but she does make a point. We don't know anything about Klaus. She does." Elena says, "Right, but that doesn't mean I want her shacking up with you." Ava stops walking and softly says, "Hey." Ava brings Elena in for a hug and says, "Maybe we should stay at your place tonight." Elena says, "Mmm, I can't. I told Bonnie and Caroline that they could come over. Bonnie's freaked out because she lost her powers and Caroline's having Matt drama again. Unless you want to come?" Ava softly smiles and says, "Sure, why not? I mean, Bonnie and Caroline are my friends too." Elena smiles and says, "Yeah." Ava pulls away from the hug and wraps her arm around Elena and they walk to class. Later, Ava's by Bonnie's locker with Bonnie and Jeremy. Ava tells them about Katherine. Bonnie says, "She's out of the tomb?" Ava says, "We're dealing with it, alright? Just be extra careful. She's getting a little too good at impersonating Elena." Jeremy looks at Bonnie as he says, "With Katherine still around, we gotta find a way to get your powers back." Ava looks at Bonnie and says, "Listen, I want to get the Martins on our side. I wanna figure out a way for us all to work together now that Elijah's out of the picture." Bonnie says, "It's impossible. They hate us." Ava says, "It's either win them over or somebody's gonna end up dead. You think you can at least convince them to have a civil conversation?" Bonnie says, "I'll try." Ava says, "Thanks. Keep me posted." Bonnie and Jeremy both nod as they say, "Yeah." Ava walks away. Later, Ava and Bonnie are at the Grill waiting for Jonas and Luca to come. Jonas and Luca walk over to them, and Ava says, "Thank you for coming." Jonas says, "I didn't want to. But my son made a case to hear you out." They both sit down, and Luca says, "Bonnie said that you have information about Elijah." Ava says, "Elijah's dead. I'm sorry." Jonas stands up, but Ava stands up and grabs his shoulder and says, "Hear me out. We can help you, please." They both sit back down, and Bonnie says, "We know that Klaus has your daughter." Bonnie looks at Luca and says, "I'm sorry about the way I had to get that information but it's good that we know. We can all work together to get her back." Luca says, "How?" Ava says, "I suspect that you and Elijah had a plan to kill Klaus. Let us help you carry it out. You can trust us. I give you, my word. We all do." Later, Ava's in Elena's kitchen with Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie. Caroline says, "Chinese food or pizza?" Elena smiles and says, "Like you have to ask." Caroline smiles and says, "I will get it." Ava and Bonnie watch Caroline frown at her tablet and they look over to see Caroline looking at the photo from the Miss Mystic Falls parade of her and Matt. Bonnie says, "I'll do it." Bonnie grabs the tablet. Elena says, "Do you guys believe that Jonas is being sincere?" Ava says, "I don't know what to believe. I think he's at a loss. He's not sure who to trust." Elena says, "Join the club." Caroline says, "Well, what are we gonna do about this movie situation? What about 'The Notebook?'" Elena smiles and says, "Caroline, how many times have you seen that movie?" Caroline says, "That is so not the point." Elena smiles and says, "Uh, well, yeah, I mean..." Elena trails off when she looks over at Jenna. Elena smiles and says, "Hey." Jenna says, "What's going on?" Elena smiles and says, "Girls' night." Jenna nods and says, "Oh." Elena says, "How are you doing?" Jenna says, "You heard about my fight with Ric." Elena says, "He feels terrible." Jenna says, "Is this some kind of disguised attempt to cheer me up?" Elena says, "No. No, no. This is about... us girls hanging out. And, you know, we'll be here if you happen to want to talk or..." Caroline says, "Because I am a winner when it comes to successful relationships." Jenna says, "You too?" Caroline says, "You have no idea." Jenna says, "Okay then. It's this whole Isobel thing. He's hiding something from me." Caroline says, "To play devil's advocate maybe... there is a great reason why he's not telling you. Maybe he is just trying to protect you." Jenna says, "Well, that's not his call to make. I mean, I deserve the truth. Everybody does." Caroline says, "Sometimes it's harder than that." Jenna says, "Not if it's somebody you care about, it isn't." Caroline says, "You know what we need? Dancing. There is a band at the Grill." Bonnie smiles and says, "I'm in." Jenna smiles and says, "In." Elena smiles and says, "In." Elena, Bonnie, Caroline, and Jenna turn towards Ava waiting for her answer. Ava chuckles, "I don't dance." Caroline smiles and says, "Come on, you have to." Elena does her puppy dog eyes at Ava and says, "Please, for me." Ava rolls her eyes and says, "Fine." The girls cheer and Ava chuckles. Later, the girls walk into the Grill. Jenna says, "I need a drink." Jenna walks away. As Matt walks there way, Caroline smiles at Matt and says, "Hey, Matt." But Matt ignores her and Caroline frowns. Ava feels bad for Caroline. Bonnie says, "Things just got real awkward. He said the balls in your court." Caroline says, "Yeah, but I can't do anything about it." Bonnie says, "Why not? All you do is talk how much you care about him?" Caroline says, "Yeah, but I'm still keeping so many secrets." Elena says, "Alaric's in the same boat with Jenna. And maybe that's our mistake. We're trying to protect the people that we love by keeping them out of it, but in the end, we're hurting them anyway." Caroline's talking off her jacket and Elena says, "What are you doing? Where are you going?" Caroline hands Elena her jacket and walks away. Elena says, "Where is she going?" Ava smiles and says, "It looks like she's headed for the stage with a determined look in her eye." Caroline hops on to the stage and grabs the microphone and says, "Hey, everybody. Let's hear it for the band!" Everyone claps and cheers. Caroline says, "Weren't they awesome? So, there's this guy. And, uh... he told me to tell him how I feel about him. Like it's so easy. Um, you know, just 'cause I talk a lot doesn't mean I always know what I'm actually talking about. Uh, like now, I'm feeling loopy, and I don't really know how to express myself." As the lead singer tries to get the microphone from Caroline, Caroline says, "Um... I can sing." Elena's surprised as she says, "Sing?" Caroline says, "Yeah. You know what, I'm gonna sing. The band plays music and Caroline sings, "Close your eyes give me your hand, darling. Do you feel my heart beating?" Jenna smiles and says, "She's good." Caroline sings, "Do you understand?" Elena smiles and says, "Yeah." Caroline sings, "Do you feel the same? Am I only dreaming? Is this burning an eternal flame? I believe it's meant to be, darling. I watch you when you are sleeping you belong with me. Do you feel the same? Am I only dreaming? Is this burning an eternal flame? Say my name. Sun shines through the rain. A whole life so lonely you come and ease the pain. I don't want to lose this feeling. Oh-h-h! No-o-o!" Matt then goes onto the stage and kisses Caroline. The crowd cheers and claps. Ava, Bonnie, Elena, and Jenna cheer the loudest. Later, as Ava's spinning Elena on the dance floor the stage lights blow out. Then the place starts sparking and Ava covers Elena. As everyone starts screaming. Damon walks over to the couple and says, "We have a problem." Ava says, "What's wrong?" Damon says, "Luca is dead and Jonas wants Elena. I have a plan, but Elena you need to get out of here." Elena nods and says, "Okay." Elena leaves with Damon. Moments later, a fire starts out of nowhere. Katherine who pretends to be Elena walks over to Jonas and Jonas and says, "Dr. Martin! I'm so sorry about Luka. I never wanted that to happen, but... at least let us help you get your daughter back." Jonas says, "Only Elijah can do that." Katherine says, "You don't need Elijah." The fire starts getting bigger. Then Caroline tackles Jonas to the ground. Ava grabs Katherine and drags her out of the Grill. Later, Ava and Katherine walk into Elena's house to see Bonnie and Jeremy. Bonnie walks over and says, "Thank God." Katherine says, "It's not over yet." Jeremy says, "What's going on?" Katherine nods her at Ava and says, "She'll explain." Katherine walks upstairs. Ava says, "When did you guys get home?" Bonnie says, "A few minutes ago." Ava says, "Did you check the house?" Jeremy says, "And why would we check the house?" They hear a thud upstairs and Ava and Bonnie rush upstairs to find Jonas on the ground dead and look up to see Katherine was the one who did it. Katherine says, "You're welcome." Bonnie crouches down next to Jonas and says, "You didn't have to kill him." Katherine says, "Yes, we did." As Bonnie goes to close Jonas's eyes, Jonas wakes up and grabs Bonnie's head. Bonnie screams, "Get him off!" Ava rushes over to Jonas and snaps his neck making him let go of Bonnie. Moments later, Ava walks downstairs and says, "Everything's taken care of." Katherine walks downstairs taking off Elena's necklace and says, "I'm guessing you're gonna want this back. But your pretty little outfit is gonna need a good dry clean." Elena walks up to Katherine and snatches the necklace out of her hand. Elena says, "You're gonna have to get her out of here before Jenna gets home." Ava nods and Katherine says, "Is that all you have to say to me?" Elena says, "This doesn't change the way I feel about you." Katherine says, "I don't much like you either, if we're gonna be open. And frankly, I'd be happy to see you dead but if we're gonna try to take on Klaus we kind of need you to be alive. So, I'm not a threat to you, Elena. If any of you are going to believe anything, believe that."
