Chapter 22: As I Lay Dying

Ava walks downstairs of her home and finds Damon burning himself and she speeds over and tackles him to the ground. Damon grunts, "Get off of me." Ava speeds Damon over to wall and says, "You're not doing this." Damon says, "Just did." Ava slams Damon against a different wall and Damon says, "You know what happened to Rose, Ava." Ava says, "I don't care." Ava speeds Damon to the basement and tosses him and locks the door trapping her brother in. Ava says, "You're not dying today." Ava locks the door and Damon says, "What's the plan, Supergirl?" Ava says, "I'm gonna find a way out of this." Damon says, "Oh, right. A miracle cure. Good luck with that one." Ava says, "I got Bonnie looking for something, anything." Damon says, "Always the hero, Ava. Just tell me goodbye, get it over with." Damon coughs and blood comes out of his mouth making Ava worried. Ava softly says, "Lie still. Conserve your strength." Ava walks away with a determined look to find a cure for her brother. Ava takes out her phone and calls Alaric. Alaric answers and says, "Sorry you've reached somebody who's currently not operating." Ava says, "I need your help." Alaric says, "You have me confused with somebody else. I'm not allowed to help... just idly sit by while my girlfriend gets sacrificed on an altar of blood." Ava says, "Damon's dying." Alaric says, "What?" Ava says, "Tyler Lockwood bit him. We don't have much time." Alaric says, "What do you need me to do?" Later, Ava's at the witch's house with Bonnie. Bonnie says, "I'm not sure this is gonna work." Ava says, "You've done a seance before, right? Contacted Emily Bennett. Maybe one of the witches know how to help Damon." Bonnie says, "Let's just hope they want to." Bonnie chants the spell the candle's rise up. Ava says, "Bonnie? Bonnie?" Bonnie's eyes open and she says, "Emily. Why have you come here, Stefan?" Emily's possessing Bonnie as Ava says, "I need your help. I need to know if there's a spell that can heal a werewolf bite." Emily says, "No. Nature ensures a balance to everything." Ava says, "Is that true? Or are you just saying no because it's Damon?" Emily says, "Perhaps it is his time to die. " Ava shakes her head and says, "No. That's not balance... that's punishment." Emily says, "I will not give you what you want." Ava says, "So, you're saying that there's an answer to give? Please. If you know something, just tell me. Help me save my brother." Then Bonnie screams as she falls to the ground. Ava kneels beside Bonnie and worriedly says, "Bonnie." Bonnie grunts, "They don't want us here. They think I'm abusing their power." Ava says, "They know something. There's an answer. They just don't want to tell me." Bonnie says, "Yeah. I heard them say a name." Ava says, "What was it?" Bonnie says, "Klaus." Ava sighs. Later, Ava walks into the town square where the town is playing the movie Gone with the Wind. Ava walks over to Elena and Caroline with a smile and says, "Hey." Elena smiles at Ava and says, "Hey. Look who couldn't resist an epic romance." Ava looks at Elena and says, "Will you come take a walk with me?" Moments later, as Ava and Elena are taking a walk, Elena says, "You're breaking the rules, you know. Movie night's supposed to be a distraction. Tomorrow we can return to our regularly-scheduled drama." Ava says, "I know, I wish this could wait, but it can't. Listen, um... the other night when Damon was helping Tyler, something happened. Tyler was starting to transform and Damon was bitten." Elena widens her yes and says, "What? Is it--? Is he gonna--?" Ava softly says, "Yeah." Elena says, "Oh, my God. He came to the house this morning and tried to apologize. I practically slammed the door in his face." Ava says, "He told me not to tell you, but I figured if you wanted to talk to him... I wouldn't wait." Elena says, "Ava--" Ava cuts her off and says, "It's not over. There might be a cure. But I have to find Klaus to get it." Elena says, "No, he's gonna kill you." Ava says, "No, he had the chance to kill me, but he didn't. Whatever Damon's done, whatever's led him here... I'm the one that made him become a vampire in the first place. So if there's a chance for a cure, I owe it to him to find it." Elena wraps her arms around Ava hugging her as Ava wraps her arms around Elena's waist. Ava says, "Go talk to him. Just tell him that there's still hope." Later, Ava walks into the apartment where Katherine is and she says, "Hello, Katherine." Katherine looks over at Ava and says, "Two days, I've been waiting. I'm supposed to be free of Klaus' compulsion by now. He's supposed to be dead." Ava walks up to Katherine and says, "We ran into complications." Katherine says, "Complications?" Ava says, "Doesn't really matter. I just need to find him. Do you have any idea where he might be?" Katherine grabs Ava and speeds her against the wall signaling Ava to be quiet as the door opens. Katherine says, "Klaus, you're back." Katherine brings Ava forward and she says, "Look who decided to come for a visit." Klaus says, "You just keep popping up, don't you?" Ava says, "I need your help. For my brother." Klaus says, "Whatever it is, is gonna have to wait. You see, I have an obligation to my brother... that requires my immediate attention. " Klaus walks past Ava as Elijah looks at Ava and says, "You understand how important family is or you won't be here. My brother gave me his word that he would reunite me with my own." Klaus is behind Elijah as he says, "And so I shall." Klaus stakes Elijah as Elijah screams. Elijah's body desiccates and his body drops to the ground. Klaus looks over at Ava and speeds her over to a wall and says, "Now, what am I gonna do with you?" Klaus stabs Ava in the stomach with a stake and Ava groans. Klaus says, "Do you feel that? It's scraping against your heart. The slightest little movement and you're dead." Katherine says, "She's just trying to help her brother." Ava grunts, "The witches said you had a cure. Make me a deal. Just give me the cure and I'll do whatever you want." Klaus pulls the stake out and Ava falls to the ground with a grunt. As Klaus pours blood into a cup he says, "Trouble is I don't know if you'd be any good to me... the way you are now. You're just shy of useless." Klaus kneels in front of Ava with a glass of blood as he says, "I heard about this one vampire, crazy bloke... always on and off the wagon for decades. When she was off, she was magnificent. 1917, she went into Monterey and wiped out an entire migrant village. A true ripper. Sound familiar?" Ava says, "I haven't been that way in a very long time." Klaus says, "Well, that's the vampire I can make a deal with. That is the kind of talent... that I can use when I leave this town. Katerina, come here." Katherine walks forward when Klaus grabs her hand and bites into her wrist. Katherine groans. Klaus lets go of Katherine as she says, "No. No, no." Klaus bits into his wrist and feeds Katherine his blood. Ava watches how the werewolf bite on Katherine's wrist healed. Klaus says, "You want your cure? There it is." Klaus wipes his mouth as Ava softly says, "Your blood is the cure." Klaus says, "Gotta love Mother Nature. Now... let's talk, you and I." Klaus wraps his arm around Ava's shoulders and they walk away. Moments later, the two are sitting at the table as Klaus is putting his blood in a small bottle. Klaus says, "There it is. You wanna save your brother? How about a decade-long bender? You know I have big plans for you... when we leave this town." Ava softly says, "I'm not like that anymore." Klaus says, "Well, that's too bad. You would have made a hell of a wingwoman." As Klaus pours out the cure, Ava says, "Wait." Klaus smiles and says, "Now, that's more like it. I want you to join me for a drink." Klaus slides a blood bag over to Ava. Ava opens the blood bag and takes a deep breath before she starts drinking the blood. Klaus says, "Good. Now, finish it. All of it. You do everything I say and I save your brother. That's the deal." Ava then starts draining the blood bag and once she's done with it she tosses it to the ground. Klaus slides Ava another blood bag and he smiles and says, "Again." Ava opens the blood bag and drinks from it as if she's a starving animal. Later, Ava's drained about a dozen blood bags and she growls at Klaus. Klaus smiles and says, "Very cooperative. It's almost as if you're enjoying it." Klaus tosses Ava another blood bag and she says, "No more. Not until you give me the cure." Klaus says, "Not until we make a deal. It's your choice, Ava. You can either remain here living your life in Mystical Falls... or you can embrace what you truly are. Leave town with me and save your brother's life." Ava snatches the bag out of Klaus's hand and rips open the bag drinking the blood. Klaus smiles and says, "That's the spirit." Klaus gets up and looks at Katherine and says, "Sweetheart..." Klaus grabs Katherine with the cure in his hand as he compels her as he says, "Take this over to Damon and come right back." Katherine says, "You want me to leave?" Ava says, "No." Klaus says, "Yes. And if I were you..." Katherine speeds out the room with the cure and Ava says, "She'll never take it to him." Klaus shrugs and Ava sighs. Later, Ava's at a storage unit with Klaus. Elijah's in casket as Klaus says, "I suppose, brother... you've been reunited with our family." Klaus closes the casket and Klaus looks at his men and says, "Put him with the others. We're leaving town tonight." Ava's phone buzzes as Klaus walks over to her and says, "So..." Ava grabs her phone and sees text from Elena saying, "Damon's okay. Where R U?" Ava sighs in relief that Damon's okay. Klaus says, "Did Katerina make it in time?" Ava stuffs her phone into her jacket pocket as she says, "You won't be seeing her again, you know?" Klaus says, "Because she's on vervain? I've been around a long time, Ava. I rarely get played for a fool. Besides, she won't get far. You'll help me see to that." Ava takes a step forward and she says, "What is it you really want from me?" Klaus smiles and says, "All will be explained in time. Once we leave this tragic little town." Ava says, "Then are we done here? Can we go?" Klaus says, "Not quite. You see, I have a gift for you. Come here, sweetheart. Don't be afraid." A woman walks up to them. Klaus moves the woman's hair to one side as he says, "See, I wanna make sure you honor our deal... that you'll be of use to me." Klaus bites into the woman's neck. Klaus pulls away and says, "I could have compelled her to behave, but a real ripper... enjoys the hunt." The woman runs away screaming. Without a second thought Ava speeds in front of the woman and her face changes as she sinks her teeth into the woman's neck draining her. Ava pulls away and the woman's body falls to the ground with a thud. Ava has a slight half smirk on her face and Klaus smiles as he says, "Now we can go." Klaus walks away with Ava behind him as the two leave Mystic Falls.
