So hopefully you'll start seeing this on my art pieces from now on lol

I also did the little five minute artist meme thing ^-^

As you can see I had a bit of fun with it lol (Can you see the watermark in the corner :0)

Okay a smallish ocean tangent tho, when you google "what is the largest marine snail" you'll typically get two answers; Giant Triton and Giant Trumpet.

You already know I have a character based off of the giant triton, but the giant trumpet, or Syrinx Aruanus, is actually slightly larger.
I picked Triton to be the king for two main reasons, one being their relationship to the Crown Of Thorns starfish, the other is that we know basically nothing about the Syrinx Aruanus.

For a snail so big you'd think they'd be easier to find but despite the fact that we have so many shells and even egg shells from them they're basically a mystery to us.

I sort of shrugged and went "well this can be a mysterious mystery character in the background that can be like Triton's mystery tutor or something and then didn't think about it again.

But today I sort of got a bit curious and actually tried to find some photos of living specimens of them and this is what I've come up with

It's tricky because most of the "living specimens" are people on the internet misidentifying it with the giant triton, but here are some examples I've managed to find

They don't live in very deep waters and I've even found a tiktok video where there's one just.. in a Rockpool (which I can't show you because when I tried to screenshot it on the website version of tiktok it redirected me to a different video and......  let's just say that I don't want to see what it showed me again.)

A couple of other things to note are that the flesh is almost always yellow, but more interesting is that they are just COVERED in algae.

It's not unheard of for snails to just.. grow algae all over their shells but it's pretty uncommon for wild snails to have this much growing on them so I have to assume that, aside from the shells being pretty dense and porous (they are the heaviest snail in the world) that these things specimens must just be extremely old.

Basically I'm just confused as to why these things are so cryptic! We know pretty much nothing about their lifestyles, behaviours, dietary habits, basically anything other than what they look like. It's weird man! It's not as though they live in a place that's hard to get to, they seem to live relatively close to the shore 😕
How rare must these guys be for this level of mystery to exist around them? How old must they be in order for them to not die out from this level of sparseness??

Anyway I'll get back to the art soon lol
