I read once from Don Bluth that when he designs a character, he begins with the front view, as it's the most difficult view to design. And like... he's not wrong ^_^;
So now, as I had designed Manta initially in profile, I'm now trying figure how to draw him from the front. I'm quite pleased with this particular piece; not only because it took a very short amount of time to finish, but also because I feel like I've finally captured my goal relatively smoothly.
Manta has quite a different design to a lot of my other characters. He's cartoonishly scrawny, very angular, and he's drawn as having black pupils, as oppose having the colourful irises that my other characters have (though I imagine if he were a real person they too would simply be black).
I do need to practice drawing him more often before I may feel fully comfortable with him but I do really enjoy his design ^_^
Here's a little traditional sketch I did of him as well
I just really like him is all *^_^*
