Charlize's POV
The two weeks of bed rest passed slowly. Lexie was miserable. Being eight months pregnant and not having the option to move around was torturous. She was in constant discomfort and would cry in my arms at night because she felt so bad. When she was finally able to move around the house again, her mood improved greatly. One day, Kerry had come over and Lexie had fallen asleep on my lap.
"Have you told her yet?" Kerry asked me.
"No. She has enough going on right now. I don't want to worry or upset her."
"Charlize, she has a right to know. She tells you everything even when she doesn't want to."
"I will tell her after the baby is born."
"Charlize, you have ovarian cancer. You need to schedule surgery." Mom said.
"Mom, Kerry, I appreciate your concern but the cancer is still stage one and I will tell my fiance on my own time." I snapped.
"But..."
"This discussion is over," I say firmly causing Lexie to wake up.
"Charlize?" She groaned sleepily.
"Hey, baby. I'm sorry. I did not mean to wake you." I say softly. She sits up and moves her body closer to me. I wrap my arms around her.
"It's okay. Is everything alright?" She asks.
"Everything's fine. How was your nap?"
"It was good but I am really thirsty."
"I will get you some water, baby," I say, getting up and walking to the kitchen. I grabbed a glass and walked to the fridge, but I knocked the glass against the counter, causing it to shatter.
"Char? You okay, babe?" Lexie called out, mom walked in.
"I am okay, Lex. I bumped the counter again." I called back.
"Between you and me, we are going to need new glasses before the wedding." She replied with a chuckle.
"Are you okay?" Mom softly asked.
'I am fine, mom. This happens all the time."
"Okay, well, get Lexie her water and I can clean up."
"Thank you, mom."
I got the water and took it to Lexie.
"Thank you."
"Of course, my love."
"Aww. You guys are so cute." Kerry said. Lexie and I laughed.
"Char, your bleeding. Did you cut your hand?" Lexie asked.
"Oh, yeah I did. It's just a scratch. I will go clean it and put a bandage on it." I tell her. She nods.
Later that night, we were lying in bed and cuddling.
"Are you okay?" I ask her.
"Yeah, I am. I'm just tired. I am always tired. But I know it will be worth it."
"IVF is amazing."
"Even before IVF, I had high-quality eggs stored in my ovaries. On the subject of ovaries, when were you going to tell me about the cancer?" She asked me.
"You... you know?"
"I heard you talking to Kerry and your mom. The baby was moving, so I was sleeping lightly. I heard everything." She says. I began to tear up.
"I am so sorry. I should have told you. I just didn't want to cause you more stress."
"Charlize, we promised to be honest with each other. We are engaged. One of the traditional wedding vows is in sickness and in health. That applies even now."
"I know. It's just that... well with the baby, I didn't want you to worry. I know cancer is hard for you."
"Baby, it's okay." She whispered. I nestled closer and put my hand on her bump.
"I don't want to get surgery until after she is born. I want to be there for you."
"Okay, however, if the doctor says otherwise, you will put your stubbornness aside."
"As you wish."
"Yeah, no more watching The Princess Bride before bed." She joked. I chuckled and kissed her.
"Let's get some sleep," I whispered.
