Chapter 6

I inhaled sharply as I watched Knox dress himself. He didn't want my help, not this once. I wasn't sure if he was furious or not over me. Having Cain in my dreams and hearing his voice was something out of my control. I tried to avoid it as much as it was possible but failed when my mind was weakened.

While buttoning up his shirt, he turned and glanced at me, "Are you going to sit naked for the rest of the day?" He questioned.

I met with his glowering gaze and shrugged, "Are you angry at me?"

"I'm not."

He stepped forward, leaving a few of the buttons loose. His chest glistened under the golden lights inside the room. I sat on the edge of the bed with a towel wrapped around my body while water continued to drip from my hair. It was hot. I needed something to cool myself down with and leaving my wet hair open was the only option.

"You're angry, Knox. I know." I raised my head, his body towered over me. Fingers slid under my chin and I rasped in a breath. "I didn't want to make you jealous—or angry, that's why I didn't tell you."

"That's what infuriates me. You don't share." He settled beside me with a heavy groan escaping his throat.

"He tried to connect me a few days later after all that. I was able to avoid him until today. He came into my dream." I explained, the truth finally left my mouth. Once I was done, I narrowed my eyes and gave my head a light shake. I didn't want to hurt Knox, not after everything.

"And let me guess, he asked for the sword, right? Is that why you told me to change its location?" Knox pressed his hand over my bare thigh, grabbing my attention.

I nodded, "Yes. I—I thought it would be better if it was unreachable for him."

"That's good."

"How did you know—that he had came into my dreams?" I raised a brow, confused.

A soft expression appeared on his and he responded, "The call, earlier, someone had seen Cain. He would be only around if he needed something. And since I threatened him, I doubted he'd come here but then I remembered you—the only connection he has over here."

Knox was a great, quick thinker. The uneasiness in my chest disappeared at last. I rose up from the bed and took my position over his lap. My arm wrapped around the back of his neck and the other one resting on my own lap.

"It doesn't matter anymore. I only want you, Knox. I may miss him but I also despise him." I reassured, easing his worries, even if it was for a minute. "I'll try to keep him out of my mind." My brows narrowed. I lifted my hand and placed it against his chest as the words that had been itching inside me finally left my mouth, "I craved for your mark, Knox and I still do. If there was something I could change, I would let you mark me."

His fingers shuffled in my hair before rose and placed a kiss over my forehead. "You're weak. Let me get you some blood." He whispered to me with a smile stretched over his face.

"Yes, please." I grinned, lifting myself from his lap.

He stepped out of the room and I disappeared into the closet to wear some clothes. After dressing, I grabbed my phone from the side of the bed and noticed the few calls Natalie had placed an hour ago. They all went to voicemail.

'Call me soon. It's an emergency.'

My brows furrowed, I dialed her number and called her while resting a hand over my hip. "What's wrong?" I asked her as she picked up the call. I had told her earlier to send me any updates about my family intentions.

I needed to know if they were going to start a war.

"Oh, Candice, finally! There is something. Mom told me, she told me everything." Nat replied before blowing out a long breath. "And it's fucked up, it's more fucked up than you can think."

"What is it?"

"You have come here. Even if its just for a day—you need to come here. What I've learned, it's beyond me. I don't know if you know this or not but Candice, there are secrets, terrible secrets in our family that can ruin us." She sounded upset and concerned at the same time.

I couldn't understand.

My heart raced, "What's wrong? What do you know?" It couldn't be anything bad than whatever I knew. I had learned half of the truth myself. I just needed to know the rest.

Her breathing escalated, "Mom wants you to come home, for a day. She wants to see you and if you don't come, they'll come to Thornwood. Do you want that?"

"No, of course, not!" I pressed my fingers against my head before glancing at the door. Knox was going to come back soon, with blood. I didn't want him to hear me arguing with my sister about something I didn't even know. "Look, uh, just listen. I'll try coming for a day but I cannot promise. But tell me, Nat, what you know?"

"You told me about the brothers, the connection you felt, right?"

"Yes." The drumming of my heart echoed in my ears. I had a feeling of what I was going hear next.

"Grandpa did make a deal with the werewolves, specifically a woman named Martha, the werewolf witch." Their mother. She was a witch. How? I held my breath back. "The weak heart thing is bullshit. You don't have a weak heart, nor you're going to die anytime soon. It's worse, Candice. You're like him." I felt a bit relieved hearing that but then not anymore.

"Like who?" I asked her.

She stopped talking and I heard shuffling noises at the other end of the call. Someone was here. It was my mother. "Are you talking to Candice?" Her voice echoed in my ears, it was pleasant, just as always. "Give me the phone."

"Mom!" Nat argued but after a few seconds of silence, she gave the phone to her.

"Candice." She took my name and it had been a long while since I had listened to her voice. I missed my parents no matter how many secrets they were keeping from me.

I held myself together, "Yes, Mom."

"Come home. We need to talk."

I opened my mouth to reject her offer but before a word left my throat, the call came to an end. My jaw hung. I snapped my head around when Knox entered the room. The scent of blood reached my nose and I took a long breath. I gave him a stiff smile before dropping on the bed with my head in my hands.

What had just happened?

"Was that your sister?" Knox asked, offering me the fresh blood he had gotten for me. Sometimes, he was generous enough to bleed one of his servants dry for me.

"Yes," I licked my lips before raising my head.

"What did she say?" He stepped forward, and waited for my response.

"That your mother was a werewolf witch."
