Chapter 29

January 24th—only four days away. The only morning where the sun would be blocked by the moon in Thornwood and it would become dark. The veil of protection would tear, letting the only creature slip inside and scour through the town. It was right at the corner and while it terrified me thinking about Gideon and him taking his revenge on the people that had abandoned him, I believed he wouldn't bring any terrible on the morning of the eclipse.

"I just have to give in a few orders. Go sit in the car. I'll be with you in a minute," Knox hurriedly said before his hand trailed away from my shoulder and he scurried back into the house.

I blew out a breath of relief and sat inside the passenger seat. We had planned the weekend away from everything but there were still matters Knox needed to take care of. He had stricken the security for the day of the eclipse and had requested the council to send more men for patrolling at the borders, ensuring Gideon wouldn't come here.

He was threatening in every way and form.

Under the broad daylight, I watched as Knox left the house and rushed back to the car. For the rest of the weekend, it was going to be him and I. No one else. My body felt warm at the thought of it all. I wanted to get away for so long and the day was finally here.

"I had asked one of the maid's to keep a close eye on Lucy while we are away," He said, his breathing quick as he started the engine of the car and drove off. "I still don't trust her and it's better if someone stays with her."

"Yes, I agree." I nodded.

There were two things to be afraid of this eclipse. Gideon making a show, terrifying me, killing people in the town that had abandoned him and taking souls. The other one was taking Lucy and harming her once more. By now, he must've known she was with us since he couldn't find her anywhere else.

I brushed away the thoughts from my head, forgetting everything for the weekend. "You promised, Knox." I glanced at him and his eyes diverted from the road and onto me.

"Yes, yes," A smile spread across his face, "I remember. No work, no family, no werewolves—nothing till Sunday night," He dropped his hand over my thigh and clenched it hard. "Don't worry, I'm all yours."

I grinned to my self and sat back straight. "That's good to know." I whispered before switching on the radio and killing the silence that had been eating us alive for the past week.

Finally, an escape.

After an hour long, rocky drive we reached the Knox's family lake house at the border of the town. It was a beautiful house at the edge of the lake with hundred's of fir trees surrounding it. The scenery promised tranquility for the weekend.

Knox killed the car's engine and we both stepped out. A man approached us, a guard, and greeted us both before taking our luggage into the lake house. I stepped on the polished wood ground of the house and my eyes wandered around, taking in everything. It was quiet and warm inside. The scent of wood burning ran up to my nostrils and I took in a deep breath. There was wood burning in the fireplace, crackling and spreading warmth across the living room. I stretched my arms before sitting down beside Knox. He put his phone on silent and tossed it away for the weekend.

No one was going to disturb us here.

"Isn't it beautiful?" He asked while looping his arm over my shoulder. "I remember coming here with my family when I was young. Since it was just my dad and my uncle, we used to go for fishing most of the time, especially in the summers. I haven't been here in over five years."

"It's beautiful," My eyes fell over the small frames placed over the fireplace. I stood up and got a closer look at them. There were pictures of Knox and Cain together, both of them young. In neither of the pictures I found their mother or Gideon which meant they were never truly in the family.

The twins spent their whole life and childhood with only their father and his brother, Ethan. There wasn't another woman in sight.

We shared a few drinks before heading outside the house and into the lake. The water was mildly cold to touch and while it was freezing outside, I didn't care much.

I sank into the water and let it flow through my body. My hair became wet instantly. Knox kicked the dirt underneath his feet while pacing back and forth.

"Come in." I said, wavering my hand at him.

"It's too cold."

I chuckled at his words, "Really?"

"Yes," He neared the water but didn't dare to step in. "I don't know how you're even breathing inside that water. I'd be dead by now."

I grabbed onto his leg and forced him to sit down even if he wasn't going to come inside the lake. It chilling indeed but nothing I couldn't bear.

"Vampires don't feel cold—or warm." I reminded him.

"Werewolves do," He shivered as I brushed my cold hand across his leg. "Let's go inside. There is a pool in the back and I can get someone to get it warm."

I pouted, "Why not here?"

"I'd freeze to death."

"I'll keep you warm." I whispered, racing my hands across his body and lowering himself to me.

My eyes fell upon his mouth and I licked my lips as my body grew warm itself in the cold lake water. It was the middle of the winters. Everything was going to be cold.

"Promise?" He grinned.

"Yes," I wrapped my arms around his neck as he began unbuttoning his shirt. As he removed his shirt, I pulled him inside the lake and tightened my legs around his torso, "You're not going to feel cold." My mouth inclined toward his neck where I set a few warm kisses while his palms spread across my ass.

"I hope so." His chest rumbled as I planted my mouth over his.

My eyes fluttered shut and we kissed for a long minute. The mark over my neck throbbed in pleasure and excitement. He thrust his hips forward, brushing his erection against my underwear. My lips curled into a smile against his mouth.

He trailed his lips across my jaw and neck before sucking on the spot where he had marked me earlier. I raked my fingers through his hair as tingling sensations sprinted all over my body. My insides tightened and a shaking breath left my mouth.

Knox looped his fingers around the straps of my bra and lowered them to my shoulders before his mouth returned over my neck and chest. He left several bites and hickies over my skin before playing with my breasts and pinching my nipples.

A small gasp escaped my throat as I continued to grind over his erection. The pulsations deepened.

My eyes fluttered open and I stared ahead into the silence and the mountains that were surrounding the lake house. I let out a breathy moan and placed my wet hand over Knox's shoulder while my lips parted open.

The pleasure subsided and the sensations became numb when I saw a shadow—someone watching us from behind the tall trees.

"Knox," I whispered as I felt my heart beat slowing down in fear.

"Yes," He parted his mouth from my skin and glanced up at me. My legs tightened even more around his waist as I continued to look behind him. There was someone. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," I shook my head and and looked at him. "Let's go inside. It's getting a bit too cold here."

"I told you so." He smiled and picked me up.
