Knox
The night had been a blur. Upon rising up from the bed after a short nap, I reached Simon once more after not getting any updates for several hours. After a little conversation, he had informed me Candice hadn't returned even though she had promised to leave with him before the next day.
The next day was here already.
"What do you mean by that? Where did she go? I asked you to keep an eye on her not fuck around and let her do whatever she wanted." I snapped at him, losing my self. My head burned in anger as I had listened to him whine for the past ten minutes and force me to take in account that he hadn't done anything.
"She went for a walk, Alpha, with her grandfather and she had promised to return. She hasn't returned home and neither has the old man. Not yet." Simon replied.
"So go figure it out where the fuck she went! And find her before I come there myself and rip your head off. I swear—if anything happens to her, I will end you and that's a promise I make to you." My jaw clenched, I barely breathed before drawing the phone away from my ears and cutting the call.
The sheets tore away from me itself. I rose up from the bed and dialed Candice's number. By now, I should've been receiving pictures of her and her family but there was nothing. The whole night had passed by and nothing!
Fucking shit.
The second call went to voicemail and even the third one. I couldn't reach. On the fourth one, it appeared her cell phone had lost its connection. I nearly lost my control and fisted my phone in my hand as anger surged through every inch of me.
I wanted her back—right now and I didn't care what it took.
I knew it was a mistake sending her back to her family. They lied to her for nearly two decades. What else could she expect from them? To tell the truth? Something was wrong, I could feel it in my bones.
After a while, I rang up Simon again, hoping for an update but there wasn't one. He was at Candice's family home but no one knew where she or her grandfather had gone to. Her belongings were still there, untouched.
I hadn't disturbed her last night knowing she was bonding with her family but even if I had a hint of what was happening, I wouldn't have slept and instead, I would've forced her back somehow.
"Give the phone to her sister and make sure it's away from her evil, blood-sucking parents." I told Simon, rage lacing in my tone now.
I wasn't sure if I was going to control it.
It was almost twelve in the afternoon and I still hadn't gotten any update. She had been missing for over nearly sixteen hours or even more.
"Hello, Natalie. I think we have spoken before, haven't we?" I said, a stiff smile spreading over my face. My wolf snarled in my chest, clawing my back, urging to rip out of my body and bring my mate back home.
I should've known better.
"Yes, we have. How can I help you?" She asked, warmly. I had met her before, here, in Thornwood, when she came to take her sister but then somehow, we had convinced Candice not to leave and Natalie left alone.
"Where is Candice?"
She was silent for a moment before I heard her take a small breath in, "I thought she was on her way to you. She told me she'd be leaving at night but it seems like she didn't as her wolf-guard is still here."
"That's not right." I pressed my hand against my forehead, suppressing the growl that nearly tore through me. "Can you reach her cell?"
"No. I called her when I woke up but she didn't answer. Wow. I really thought she had left but I guess not."
"Where is your grandfather?" I rose a brow, muscles in my body tightening as it came to me what had been happening.
"He—he—" Words caught in her throat. She shuffled around for a minute before I heard her breaths change its rythmn, "I don't know. I'm sorry."
"Where did he take Candice last night?"
"For a walk—that's what she told me. She told me she was going to take a walk with him and then leave for Thornwood before midnight. I fell asleep after that and I didn't notice anything until now," Natalie paused for a moment and in the silence, fire erupted in my chest. Whatever was happening wasn't right. "But if she's with him, she's probably safe and they might be somewhere in the town only, maybe getting some things or I'm not sure." Her words scattered all around. She, herself, wasn't sure about her grandfather or her sister's whereabouts.
"Alright. Thank you. Can you give the phone back to Simon?" I asked her.
"Of course."
I strolled back and forth inside my bedroom while my free hand turned into a fist. My nostrils flared and when Simon received the phone, I said, "Stay there till it gets dark. Find Candice or her grandfather, any of them and if you don't, return to Thornwood immediately."
"Noted, Alpha!"
I tossed the phone over the table and rested my hands on either side of it while breathing heavily. I knew it was wrong. I knew I shouldn't have let Candice out of my sight. Now, she was in trouble and I didn't even know where she was or where she gone to with that old man of hers.
If none of her family knew about her whereabouts, including her own sister than that meant something was cooking—boiling.
I could not sit around and wait to find out what was happening. I needed to gather my men, my strength and leave by dusk because then, it would've been enough time for anyone to know Candice was in trouble and her grandfather was surely not going to survive another day if he had dared to even touch her.
