"What have you achieved all this while? Nothing. You have melded with the werewolves. You have embarrassed us all. We tried to keep it a secret for as long as it was possible but the minute rumors began spreading, vampires were all down our throat, questioning us about our daughter's whereabouts and whether it was true if you had been marked by a goddamn werewolf!" Dad paced back and forth in his office while his gaze was fixated on me, burning into my soul.
I leaned forward and placed my elbow against my knee, "Maybe you should stop keeping secrets, Daddy." I said, the same edge in my voice as he had in his.
"We didn't keep any secrets from you." He stopped pacing and stood idle in front of me, his tall frame shadowing my small one as I remained seated near to his desk.
"Don't lie to me. I only came here to know more about—whatever it is that you've kept from me." I lifted my gaze and met with his before casting a glance to Mom who was standing near to the window with a hand underneath her chin. Though, she didn't have much to say. "Where is Natalie anyway?" I asked, looking for her.
My only concern was seeing her, talking to her and finding out the truth before leaving this place, this town that didn't exactly welcome me when I arrived. Heads were turned and whispers could be heard from a distance as we drove toward my parent's house. Only after arriving here, I realized I wasn't going to be greeted with flowers but rather with loud yellings and Dad's fury.
It was alright, nothing I couldn't bear.
"She's out, running some errands." Mom stepped forward and responded.
"What did you want to talk about then?" I asked, folding my leg over the other one. "The truth you've been hiding from me since I was born? What did Grandpa do to me, Mom? What kind of deal did he cut with the werewolves? What did my own family turn me into?" I began questioning them.
Mom's face took a sharp turn, the shadow over her face only deepened as I questioned her. When I looked at Dad, I found him sharing a glance at Mom, still hiding the truth even when I was sitting in front of them.
It made sense to why they never wanted me to leave from here, why their glued themselves onto me because they never wanted me to find out the truth—about myself. All that while ago when I told them I'd be heading to Thornwood, they unleashed their fury on me until I fled down and escaped from here. Only then, I contacted them and told them I'd be going on my way, hoping to find a solution for the darkness that than destroyed packs and clans viciously.
It wasn't about their titles or their respect in the clan that they wanted me stay here, at home, for the rest of my life. It was because they hid something from me, they hid the fact that I was mated to werewolves—that a vampire was mated to werewolves. I would've never found out about it if I didn't run away from home and went to Thornwood to find shelter.
"The silence isn't going to cut it. I'm here, Mom. Give me the answers I want or I'll leave just as quickly as I came." I stood up from my seat and stood between my parents, hoping their silent treatment wouldn't last for long.
Mom cleared her throat and asked, "What do you want to know?"
"Natalie told me about a deal Grandpa made with the werewolves, a certain werewolf—Martha. What was the deal about?" I asked her. Unease stirred in my gut. I knew when something wrong was incoming and ever since I drove into this town, I felt it, growing deep inside my stomach.
Simon was outside of the house, with the driver Knox had sent me. I didn't need Simon right now. It wasn't like my family would injure me in any way.
