Chapter 39
I stepped away from my spot and walked closer to him even when I didn't want to, but his single command forced me to obey him as if it was the only thing I needed to do. I had seen him in my dreams—nightmares, but it had been a long time since I hadn't seen his face in reality.
My teeth clenched from the cold inside the house. There was no heater switched on and neither there was any wood in the fireplace. It was chilling inside and outside.
"What do you want from me?" I asked, reaching closer. My lower lip quivered and a lump grew in my throat, forcing ragged breaths out of me.
He stepped away from the wall when I stood now only inches away from him. His face into light and it wasn't the face of his darkness but rather his true face. I inhaled, taking in his scent. The scent of ash and fire. It was different this time. I felt a strange pull toward it rather than fear.
"You." He whispered, stretching his arm and letting his hand fall over my hair.
I didn't run—I didn't want to. "I know that's not true. What are you here for?" I questioned again.
If he wasn't here for Lucy then what was he here for?
His finger raced down my hair and then moved to my cheek. I stared up into his smoldering eyes, sinking in them and losing myself second by second. My knees weakened.
I frowned when he didn't respond. "Tell me. I don't have the whole night to spend it here, listening to your silence. I know there's something you want to tell me, so do it. What is it?" I demanded an answer and I needed it quickly.
The hurry suppressed any other emotions that rose inside me as he touched my face.
"Where's the sword?" He asked, moving his finger.
"It's hidden," The corners of my mouth curled into a smile. "I don't know where it is either so you cannot get into my head and find it." I continued, remembering Knox. The sword couldn't reach anyone's hand. He was the perfect protector of it and it needed to stay that way.
"I don't want to get into your head and find it." He scoffed, shaking his head slightly.
"Then? Why are you curious?"
"Simply because it's a weapon that can kill me. You cannot let anyone have it. No one. The minute someone else possesses the sword, it's the end—for you, for me and for the twins." He explained, sounding concerned.
Worry and fear washed away from me as I began to realize why Gideon and Cain wanted the sword from me. It was to keep it protected and away from anyone else. Anyone that could want to kill us.
"Don't worry. It's well hidden." I confirmed, setting him at ease.
"Good."
Was that all he wanted to know? I had already told Cain about the sword. Couldn't he forwarded the message before?
"Should I leave—"
Before I had the chance to complete, he cut me off and grabbed my wrist, "No," His face momentarily morphed and fingers tightened around my wrist. "There's something else."
I rose a brow, waiting for him to continue. Time ticked by. It had already been an hour on road and it was going to be another hour to return back home, to Knox and to him only.
"Cain told me about what happened in your town, when you went to see your family..." he trailed off, taking his sweet, tortuting time to finish. "Your grandfather and what he had done to you."
"He tried." I whispered.
It was a fail try and it had kept me on the edge till today. I couldn't think about it again. Goosebumps sprinted over my skin as I thought about my grandfather. I still feared him finding me, and taking me. His intentions were unknown.
"He's going to try again," Gideon mumbled, "And he's not going to stop."
"Stop with what?" My brows furrowed in confusion.
"When your grandfather helped my mother, it wasn't just about control. It was more than that. There's more you need to know, about yourself, about me. He wants us, together, mated. He wants us to shape the new world order and rule."
Just as he finished, a small laugh escaped my throat. That was something entirely out of the world. "That can't be possible." I scoffed at the thought of it.
"It is," He lined his lips straight and responded. His expression not flinching. He remained serious, tall and above me. I bit the inside of my cheek as he continued, "There was a reason why you're different. Shifters like us don't exist, not anymore. They were all killed when the werewolves and vampires became aware of their power and existence. Your grandfather will force you to shift whether it's now or years later. It will happen." His voice stayed stern.
A chill ran down my back as I heard his words. I already had a fair-share of fear. I didn't truly need anymore.
"It won't happen." I shook my head, denying anything he said. For as long as I was going to be away from my grandfather, all was going to be well. He couldn't reach me, not when I was with Knox and now Cain.
They wouldn't let him have me.
"It will happen," Raising his hand, he returned it over my face and pushed a strand of hair behind my ear. His eyes brightened and his gaze ran all over me, "But the new world order will only dawn if I mate with you," His mouth lowered to my ear and his hand moved, "The bond we'll share will make us the strongest creatures ever to exist. We'll rule the world."
My heart skipped a beat. I swallowed a gasp and stepped away, "No." My head moved left and right. Nothing as such was ever going to happen.
"Just imagine the power, Candice, the power we'll share through the bond. You'll never have to submit to anyone. You'll have the whole world in your fist," He whispered and stepped closer and closer, "And you'll feel nothing but bliss. No one will control you. It will be yours."
My back pressed against the wall near the window as horror filled up my face and rushed across my body. I shook my head again and refused to have any of it.
I didn't want it.
I didn't want anything.
He placed a hand on the wall, near to my head and leaned inward, trapping me. "Every vampire, every werewolf will get on their knees for you and they all will be terrified," He slipped his fingers underneath my chin, forcing me to look into his evil, sinister eyes. "Everything will be yours and you'll be mine."
