"It's done," Leandra breathed out.

The feelings inside me were too much to contain and all I could do was let the tears run free. Finally, he was back. It's what I had waited for, what we'd all waited for. Alexander was back and I'd get to see him again. Words couldn't explain how much I missed him or how ecstatic I was.

All that was left to do was wait. He was going to be shipped back to Nox, but it was going to take almost another day, whereas it took us only a few hours. Extra precautions had to be made so they weren't caught while extracting him.

Not long left to wait.

I fell asleep before the day was done, I was knackered, unable to stay awake long enough to find out if they got him back here safely or not. But when my alarm blared around me and I awoke to see Charlotte stood beside my bed with a grin, I knew he was in good hands.

"Get washed, go eat, and we'll see him."

I did just as she said, and before I knew it, we were in the medical wing, following two doctors in long white coats. When we pulled in to a room, I thought it was his, but it wasn't. Instead, it was an observation room and glancing through the glass, I could see Alexander laying there, although not too clearly.

"Arianne. Don't forget, he's not himself. Don't get too close and don't be too loud," Leandra warned me for the third time since we entered the medical wing.

I nodded quickly. I just wanted to get to Alex as soon as possible. I wanted to see how he was recovering. I couldn't wait, it'd been too long.

Ask me two years ago, when I was taken to Nox Aterrima if I'd come to visit Alexander in a hospital, I'd have most likely said no. I wouldn't have cared. Now, I couldn't stand the thought of him being stuck in a hospital bed after going through months of torture all for the sake of his people, his family and me. He could've chosen to be selfish and just save himself, but he didn't.

I took a deep breath just before Leandra opened the door.

We made our way in slowly and I saw him. He was just lying there peacefully, covered up to the neck. His skin almost matched the shade of the frosty white blanket and scars were tattooing his arms. Nevertheless, he looked peaceful and you couldn't tell if he was in any pain.

Leyton was sat on the far side of the bed, furthest away from the door and Jayden was replacing the flowers at Alex's bedside from some pink roses to white lilies instead. Had the Queen visited him?

As I got closer I analysed Alexander in more detail, he looked so skinny and drained of life; he looked awful. Another thing I noticed was that his hands were tied down with some kind of transparent plastic that was hardly visible. Was it to restrain him from harming others or himself? Or maybe the treatment was painful.

Charlotte held me back when I was just a few feet away from the bed and I wanted to protest because he was tied down anyway. What could he do? She gave me a stern look as to not argue with her, and I didn't. Her and Leandra had fought so hard to even have me allowed to get this close to him.

"We'll give you ten minutes alone with him. Don't go any closer than this, OK?" Said Charlotte, drawing an imaginary line just in front of us.

Everyone left the room, leaving just me and Alexander alone. It was silent apart from the beeping of the heart rate monitor.

"A-Alexander. It's me, Arianne," I said slowly. I'd never spoken to someone like that in a hospital before. I didn't know whether or not he could hear me.

His eyes opened and met mine as soon as I had stopped talking, they didn't have the usual softness to them or their purple-blue glow.

No.
