The campsite was nestled in a small clearing surrounded by tall trees. The ground was covered in a soft layer of pine needles, which felt spongy beneath my feet. The trees provided a natural canopy overhead, casting dappled sunlight onto the forest floor. The air was fresh and crisp, with a faint hint of pine and earthy scents.

There was a small stream nearby, its gentle gurgling providing a soothing background noise. We had set up our tents on a patch of grass next to the stream, with a small fire pit in the center for cooking our meals. We had brought along some camping chairs and a small table for eating and playing games.

As we sat around the campfire, roasting marshmallows and chatting, I couldn't help but feel a sense of peace and contentment. The natural beauty of the surroundings and the company of my friends made me forget about the stresses of everyday life. The stars were just starting to appear in the sky, and I knew that we were in for a magical night under the stars.

Suddenly, Sarah remembered something and asked me mysteriously if I wanted to listen to the gossip. She said it was about my ex-boyfriend Ethan.

As soon as Sarah mentioned Ethan's name, my heart sank. It had only been a few months since he rejected me and the wounds were still fresh. But I was also curious about what Sarah knew, so I nodded my head and urged her to tell me.

"Apparently," Sarah began, her voice hushed and low, "Ethan met his mate, Sandra, but she turned out to be a spy from a rival pack. And now he's going to face a trial to prove his loyalty to our pack."

I felt a lump form in my throat as I processed what Sarah had just said. Ethan, the Alpha's right-hand man, was in trouble? And he had been betrayed by his mate? It all sounded too surreal.

Steven, who had been listening to our conversation, chimed in with a skeptical tone, "Are you sure about this? It sounds like something straight out of a soap opera."

Sarah glared at him, clearly annoyed at his disbelief. "I heard it from a reliable source," she insisted. "And it would explain why Ethan has been so distant lately."

"What kind of accusations?" I asked, feeling a mix of curiosity and concern.

"I'm not exactly sure, but my friend said it's something to do with treason and leaking confidential information," Sarah said, her voice lowered to a hushed tone.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Ethan, the guy I thought I loved, had turned out to be someone completely different from what I thought he was. I couldn't help but feel a tinge of satisfaction knowing that he was facing consequences for his actions.

"I'm sorry to hear that," I said, trying to sound sympathetic, but my voice came out cold and distant.

"It's alright, Emily," Sarah said, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. "You deserve better than someone like him. The jerk was totally regretful, you know, he asked me about your track, but I told him to get away. "

I listened to Sarah's words, feeling a mix of surprise and curiosity. So Ethan had regretted breaking up with me? I never would have guessed. But why did he want to know about me now?

"Did he say anything specific about me?" I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me.

Sarah shrugged. "Not really. He just asked about you and how you're doing. I didn't give him any details, though. I didn't want to encourage him."

I nodded, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the news. On one hand, it was nice to know that he had thought about me and regretted his decision. But on the other hand, it was too little, too late. I had moved on and found happiness with someone else.

"I don't really care about Ethan anymore," I said with a shrug. "I'm happy with where I am now."

Sarah smiled at me. "That's all that matters, Emily. You deserve to be happy."

I smiled back at her, feeling grateful for her support. It was nice to have someone who had my back, no matter what. And as we continued to chat and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the people in my life who cared about me.

As Sarah finished her story about Ethan, we sat in silence for a moment, listening to the sounds of nature around us. The crackling of the campfire mixed with the chirping of the crickets and the rustling of leaves in the wind. We were surrounded by tall trees, their leaves casting shadows on our faces as the sun began to set.

Steven interrupted the silence with a sudden burst of laughter. "What a loser," he said, shaking his head. "He had his chance with you and he blew it. Now he's stuck with some spy girl? Good riddance."

I rolled my eyes at Steven's harsh words, but I couldn't deny that they made me feel a bit better. It was nice to have someone on my side, even if it was my sometimes-annoying cousin.

As the night went on, we shared stories and laughter, enjoying each other's company and the peacefulness of the woods. I couldn't help but feel grateful for Sarah and Steven, and the bond we had built over the years.
