It was the last day of 1958, New Year's Eve. Throughout the year, things have been pretty crazy around Hill Street Neighborhood! Huckleberry Hound had been through a lot of big changes that year too. He moved out of North Carolina to move into Hill Street Neighborhood, he made a lot of new friends as of so far, he starred in his own TV show, he went to a Halloween party, he traveled all the way to the North Pole, and he even rode in a rodeo! But now he was really looking forward to what 1959 would bring. He decided to send 1958 out with a bang that day with a big New Year's Eve celebration in his house! He was busy decorating the place with balloons, streamers, and noisemakers.
"I'm really excited for tonight!" he said to himself. "1958 was fun, but I'm really excited for 1959!"
Just then, he heard a knock on the door. "Come in!" he called.
The door opened, and in came Mr. Jinks, Pixie, Dixie, Yogi Bear, and Boo-Boo! "Hiya, Huck!" Yogi greeted.
"We're here!" Dixie called.
"And we're ready to party!" Pixie said."Fellers!" Huck cried. "You're my first guests! Come on in! And since you're a little early, why don't you guys help me with the rest of the preparations? Jinks, you can make the snacks, and Yogi, don't eat the snacks until party time!"
Everyone got to work as Huck started singing one of his favorite Bing Crosby songs.
"Merry month of may, sunny skies of blue,
Clouds have rolled away and the sun peeps thru,
May express happiness, joy you may define in a thousand ways,
But a case like mine needs a "special phrase"
To reveal how I feel.
I've got the world on a string, sittin' on a rainbow,
Got the string around my finger,,
What a world, what a life, I'm in love!
I've got a song that I sing,
I can make the rain go, anytime I move my finger,
Lucky me, can't you see, I'm in love,
Life is a beautiful thing, as long as I hold the string,
I'd be a silly so and so, if I should ever let go,
I've got the world on a string, sittin' on a rainbow,
Got the string around my finger,
What a world, what a life, I'm in love.
I've got the world on a string, sittin' on a rainbow,
Got the string around my finger,,
What a world, what a life, I'm in love!
I've got a song that I sing,
I can make the rain go, anytime I move my finger,
Lucky me, can't you see, I'm in love,
Life is a beautiful thing, as long as I hold the string,
I'd be a silly so and so, if I should ever let go,
I've got the world on a string, sittin' on a rainbow,
Got the string around my finger,
What a world, what a life, I'm in love."
That night, when everything was ready to go, more party guests started arriving. There was Mr. Post, the mailman, as well as Mrs. Jones. Jarred was also in attendance, since he was one of Huck's good friends. And from the Hanna Barbera studios, Ruff and Reddy showed up to celebrate the new year. Sammy Squirrel also came to the party with his mother. They knew Huck ever since Huck rescued Sammy from a tall tree.
