One night, Huckleberry Hound was wandering around the creek outside of town, looking for frogs. Ever since he was a pup, he loved to go frog hunting. He would gather them and put them in a big bucket and see how many he had found, then he would let them go again. It had always been a lot of fun. He was moving around near the water, waving his flashlight around and trying to spot any signs of a frog. He knew that they always liked to come out at night, and he loved to listen to them "sing."
"I wonder if I can find any frogs tonight," he said to himself. He then saw a shadow in the distance. "I think I see one now!"
But much to his disappointment, it was only a chipmunk, running back home to his underground burrow. He sure was running quite late to get home, Huck thought. He continued to wave his flashlight around, when he heard a familiar sound.
"Grrr....ribbit!"
He grinned when he spotted a small green frog with black speckles all over its skin. It was sitting on the bank of the creek, right where he could see it clearly! He quickly snatched it up in his bucket, then shined his light on it to get a better look.
"Ahhhh, just like old times!" he sighed. He chuckled, then imitated the sound of a frog's croak. "Ribbit! Ribbit!" he laughed. Much to his delight, the frog croaked back at him! That made him laugh even more.
"Golly," he giggled. "I love frogs! But I sure miss Puddles. He was a cute little pig."
Huck continued to hunt for frogs for a little while, but that was the only one he managed to find. He finally let it go, where it leaped back into the creek with a splash and went swimming off. As he made his way back to town, he looked up at the moon shining brightly from above, and he saw a shadow fly over it as an owl perched up in the trees nearby. It hooted loudly as he walked by and stared up at it.
"Who?" he called out. "I'm Huckleberry Hound, that's who!" Then he chuckled as he continued to walk down the road.
Meanwhile, his friends were on their way to his house for a visit, when they heard a noise. It sounded like someone whining sadly.
"What was that?" Mr. Jinks asked.
"Someone sounds sad," Pixie replied.
"Oh, please tell me it isn't Huck crying again," Dixie groaned.
"I don't think it's Huck this time," Yogi Bear explained. "It must be something else. Follow that whining!"
So they followed the sound of the whining when they suddenly came across a small brown puppy standing in the ditch nearby. He had a chubby belly, stubby legs and floppy ears, but most notably, very sad little brown eyes. He whimpered when he saw the gang approaching him.
"It's a puppy!" Boo-Boo cried.
"What is he doing out here all alone?" Pixie asked.
"Not sure!" Dixie replied. "But he sure looks cute!"
"Like, uh, I'm not taking care of this puppy," Jinks sighed. "I'll probably get annoyed by his howling and whining. You go ahead, Yogi."
"I wish I could, but I'm not good with dogs," Yogi sighed. "But I think we know someone who is!"
"Yeah!" Dixie cried. "We should go and see..."
...if Huck will take him in!" Pixie finished.
"Now there's an idea that, big, big, big!" Yogi shouted. "Huck could use a new friend since he gave away that cute little pig."
"Like, uh, then let's go ask him!"
So they all made their way to Huck's house. Meanwhile, Huck was at home, waiting for dinner to be ready. Tonight, he was making spaghetti and meatballs. But just then, he heard a knock at the door.
