One morning in Hill Street Neighborhood, Huckleberry Hound had woken up and eaten up a hearty breakfast of eggs and toast with strawberry jam. Now that he was all energized, he decided to practice some dance moves in his living room since the weather outside was looking a little dreary. He grabbed his cane and his top hat and started to look for a good song to dance to as he browsed through his collection of records. He soon found an old jazz record, so he put it in the record player, and turned it on. As the music started playing, Huck was clicking his heels and attempting to do some more advanced dance moves he'd been trying to learn.
"This is fun!" he said to himself. "There's nothing better than dancing on a cloudy day to chase your cares away!"
But just then, he heard the phone ring, so he danced over to pick it up. "Hello, hello, hello!" he sang as he answered the phone.
"Hello, is this Huckleberry Hound?" a voice said.
"Well what do you know!" Huck cried. "It's the principal of the elementary school!" Huck knew that the principal of the local elementary school was a big fan of his show, but why was he calling him today? He felt very curious. "Hiya, Mr. Brown! What can I do for ya'?"
"Oh, Huck, it's a catastrophe!" Mr. Brown replied. "Mrs. Stevens wants to take her first grade class to the opening of the new children's museum for a field trip, but the first grade funds are low. In other words, we don't have enough money to send the children on a field trip. It would be a real shame if we couldn't. The new children's museum would be a wonderful place for them to learn about new things!"
"Well gosh, that is a problem!" Huck said. "But what can I do to help?"
"Well, you like to put on shows for people, don't you, Huck?"
"Yep! That's what I'm known for!" Huck smiled. "Maybe I could put on a show here in town and help raise money for y'all to take the kidlets on their field trip! Does that sound like a good plan to you?"
"Why, that sounds like an excellent plan, Huck! We can help you promote the show at the very least, and perhaps we can have the art teachers provide you with some supplies for building the sets."
"Aw, that's real kind of you, Mr. Brown! I'm sure that with a little hard work, we'll put on a fantastical show for the kidlets, and their parents too!"
"Sure thing!" Mr. Brown beamed. "I think since you'll be the one hosting the show, we should have a great turnout. After all, you're a local celebrity and everyone seems to love you!"
"Shuckins..." Huck blushed.
"Anyway, have the show ready by tomorrow night, okay?"
"Okey dokey, artichokey!" Huck said as he hung up the phone.
Then he made his way over to the malt shop, where he knew his friends would be waiting for him. Soon they were all sitting at their usual table with milkshakes as they began to discuss the matter at hand, and what kind of show they should put on.
"It's a show to help raise money for the kidlets, so I think we should put on a show that I know that they'll love," Huck was saying. "We should think of a good story that kids like."
"What about a fairy tale?" Boo-Boo suggested. "The little kids seem to really enjoy those."
"Great idea!" Dixie beamed. "Let's do our favorite story!"
"Jack and the Beanstalk!" Pixie finished.
"I like that story too," Huck said. "But uh...where are we gonna find a beanstalk? Or a giant?"
"Oh, yeah," Dixie sighed. "You have a point there, Huck."
"Goldilocks and the Three Bears is a good story!" Yogi suggested.
