The morning of the first race, both Y/N and Lizzie were up and out early. Y/N was wearing their trusty brown worn leather jacket that Lizzie bought them years ago. As the two of them reached the pit, Y/N was whisked away by their strategy team. Leaving Lizzie to wait for Jeremy, Scarlett and the mystery person.
"Just mainly keep your cool Y/N." The Crew Chief said as Y/N nodded. "Now go and greet your family. More have arrived and will be coming through any minute. So greet them and spend some time before you get ready."
"Yes sir." Y/N nodded before making their way over to Lizzie. "Here." Y/N took off their jacket and placed on Lizzie's shoulders. "Apparently the others are here." Y/N stated as they stood before Lizzie, watching the door.
"You will be amazing." Lizzie told them with a smile. "I know it." Before Y/N could respond, the doors opened revealing Scarlett, Jeremy and Hailee. Scarlett running straight into Y/N's arms.
"Hey my favourite Renner." She said as Y/N hugged her close.
"What about me?" Jeremy asked her. Feigning hurt.
"Y/N is still my fave." Scar shrugged as she let them go.
"Y/N." Jeremy smiled before pulling them in for a hug. "I hope you don't mind that I brought Hailee. She has never been to a NASCAR race before." Y/N met Hailee's gaze before returning their gaze back to their older brother.
"Of course." Y/N smiled at him.
"Can we talk Y/N." Hailee asked them as Y/N sighed.
"I have to get ready." Y/N tried to leave but Hailee gripped their wrist.
"Please. I won't be long." She pleaded. Jeremy smiled softly at them before Y/N sighed.
"A couple of minutes." Y/N told her as they led her away from the group.
"Why is she really here?" Lizzie asked Jeremy.
"She said she wanted to apologise." He told her as the two kept their eyes on the two.
"What did you want to talk about?" Y/N asked her as she sighed.
"I want to apologise." She started. "It wasn't right playing with your feelings like that, but I saw Lizzie being close with you so I just. I needed you Y/N. I wanted you."
"Lizzie is my best friend. I have known her since the first time we met on the set of Age of Ultron." Y/N told her. "We have helped each other through so much over the years, and then the moment I saw you slap her and pull her hair. That changed how I see you."
"So it's her." Hailee spoke harshly.
"No. She is my best friend. I am still not ready for any type of physical relationship." Y/N sighed. "Hailee I love you like a little sister, but that is all you will ever be. Nothing more than that."
"Seriously." Hailee scoffed as Y/N just watched her. "Why won't you go for me. What is so wrong with me?"
"Nothing Hailee. There is nothing wrong with you." Y/N told her as she shook her head. Glancing over at Lizzie and recognising their jacket.
"Then why won't you give me a chance?" She asked them.
"Because I don't see you like that." They told her.
"You mean how you see Lizzie." She scoffed as Y/N shook their head no. Pinching the bridge of their nose.
"I am not going to keep going around in circles with you." Y/N told her sternly. "So just enjoy the race." They said before they walked into their locker room. Hailee just ran her hands over her face as Lizzie followed after Y/N.
"Y/N?" She called softly causing them to turn around.
"Why is everything falling apart." Y/N asked her.
"I don't know Y/N." She whispered.
"Why can't she be like you and accept that I am not into her like that and I won't be." They said as Lizzie reached out for their hand.
"She is young." Lizzie tried to reason as Y/N sighed.
"I uh I need to get ready." They said as they avoided eye contact with her.
"Please be safe." Lizzie asked them.
"Always." They kissed her head before disappearing. The four of them were led to the family lounge.
"So, what was that between Y/N and Hailee?" Scarlett asked Lizzie as they watched the race. Lizzie's eyes trained on Y/N's car.
"I don't really know." She whispered softly. "They never told me but it really upset them."
"Wasn't that conversation that could have waited until after the race?" Scarlett asked her as she nodded in agreement. Watching as the back end of Y/N's car spun out slightly but Y/N managed to keep it under control. Y/N was third.
"I am just worried about them." Lizzie said as she picked at her cuticles. "I just can't shake this feeling Scar."
"It will be ok. Besides there is only 25 laps left." Scar pointed out. Lizzie nodded as the two went back to watching Y/N.
"They're really having trouble with the back end." Jeremy pointed out. Lizzie's heart was beating frantically in her chest.
"I know." Scarlett agreed. They all watched as fourth place clipped the rear of Y/N's car as they started to lose control of the back. The car flipping into the air.
Everything happened in slow motion. Everyone watched as it spun, thinking it was never going to stop, but when it did, it was hit by a car who couldn't slow down or swerve away in time. Causing it to crash into to wall. When it did stop, everyone noticed a small spark which soon turned into a fire.
"Y/N!!" Jeremy called out as the four of them ran from the family room. Being held back by stewards as they had a team working on getting Y/N out. Hoping that they aren't too late.
"Please Y/N. Please be alive." Lizzie whispered as the tears fell freely from her eyes. Waiting to see if they could get them out before the fire grew.
