As Marley walked down the path towards the front of the school she can't help but hear two voices arguing. Wednesday and Morticia to be exact.
So instead of barging in on them she decides to wait for them to be finished before walking out.
"You have nowhere to go," Morticia whispers to Wednesday.
"As usual, you underestimate me, Mother." She replies, "I will escape this educational penitentiary, and you will never hear from me again." She argued.
At this Morticia sighed. "You are a brilliant girl, Wednesday, but sometimes you get in your own way." She quipped. "I'm sure you'll grow to love Nevermore, and find it as life-changing as I did." She paused, "Oh, I got you a little something. W... M. Our initials." She kept going, "It's made of obsidian, which Aztec priests used to conjure visions." She knowingly informed. "It's a symbol of our connection." She finished, finally.
"Which one of your spirits suggested this toe-curling tchotchke?" Wednesday retorted. "I am not you Mother. I will never fall in love, or be a housewife, or have a family."
"I'm told girls your age say hurtful things, and I shouldn't take it to heart." Morticia reassured, but it sounded like she said to more to convince herself.
"Fortunately, you don't have one." Wednesday informed.
"Finally, a kind word for your mother." She said as you could hear the smile in her voice.
After she said this Marley decided that it was time to reveal herself from her 'hiding' position.
At the arrival of new footsteps Morticia perked up and Wednesday turned around.
"I just seeing if there was any more bags you needed me to take up?" She asked.
"As a matter of fact I do have one more you." Morticia replied turning to the driver, "Lurch, get our last bag for miss Broditch and the crystal ball, please" She asked ever so politely.
The driver, Marley now knows as Lurch, opened the door and got out two more bags. He gave them both to Morticia who gave one to Marley and held onto the other.
"Marley dear please wait for Wednesday so you can walk to your room together." She asked, although it was more of an order.
"Sure." She replied, an odd request indeed but she wanted to know the new goth girl at school so she agreed.
Plus who can say no to Morticia Addams.
Wednesday turned back to face her mother and Morticia pulled her attention back to her daughter while Marley just awkwardly stood in the background trying not to eavesdrop.
"Now we can't talk to you for the first week while you're settling in, so we'll call you next Sunday." She informed giving the box holding the ball to her daughter.
She went to touch Wednesday's arm but the younger of the two moved ever so slightly that she took the hint and decided against it.
Morticia walked back to the car where Lurch opened the door for her, and then got in the car himself and drove off.
After standing there for what felt like an eternity Marley moved next to Wednesday.
"It's pretty." She said, "the necklace I mean."
"I find it rather childish for her to give it to me."
She deadpanned.
"And yet you're still holding it," Marley challenged.
Wednesday turned to look up at her, both metaphorically and physically considering their height difference.
"You intrige me." Wednesday started.
"Oh?" Marley questioned.
"You're hiding something."
"Isn't everyone?"
"Yes that is true, but I'm going to find out what you're hiding."
"Well good luck with that because it's what my therapist has been trying to do for 2 years and so far hasn't succeeded."
After she said this Wednesday turned around and started walking back to their dorm, except she was going in the wrong direction.
"It's left not right." She directed.
"I'm aware of that." Wednesday retorted.
'Lie'.
"Oh yeah? Is that why you were heading to the lake." She challenged. Walking in front of Wednesday.
Behind her the girl who hasn't smiled since she came to Nevermore, had her lips twitch upwards, not so much to notice but enough to know that she had taken a liking to this mysterious brunette.
A/N - I think I just realised that some of this is written like Marley's there and some like its happened In the past if that makes sense but oh well that's a problem for another day.
