"How could you miss a dead body?" Wednesday asked Sheriff Galpin, entering the school with Principal Weems and Marley following behind them.
"'Cause it wasn't there. No footprints, no blood, no sigh of struggle. Nothing, nada." The Sheriff firmly stated.
"Don't know why you couldn't of just said nothing." Marley whispered to herself.
"My search party looked all night." He finished.
"Well, your search party must have left their seeing-eye dogs at home." Wednesday retorted causing Marley to chuckle but cover it up as a cough when Weems looked at her.
"We saw that monster kill Rowan right in front of us." The shorter of the two told the Sheriff.
"Did either of you get a good look at this monster thing?" He asked.
"It didn't stick around for a chat." Wednesday sassed.
"Maybe it was one of your classmates." Donovan suggested, although it was more of an accusation.
At this Weems turned around.
"Sheriff, I find that question offensive." She warned.
"Well I don't care, 'cause I got three other dead bodies in the morgue. Hikers just ripped apart in the woods." He confessed.
"The mayor said those were bear attacks." The Brit reminded, rolling her eyes a bit.
"Well, the mayor and I disagree on that." He said looking between all three women.
"So you automatically assume a Nevermore student is the murderer, even though there's no evidence that a crime was even committed." She said, now getting very defensive.
"I'm sorry. I forgot, you only teach the good outcasts here, right?" He finished.
After that Weems directed everyone to her office, Marley guessed it was more private than the very public stairwell they were just arguing on.
As they entered Weems started her thoughts of this catastrophe.
"My guess is Rowan ran away. State troopers have put out an alert. and I've contacted his family, but they haven't heard from him either." She suggested, sitting in her chair.
"Dead people are notoriously bad at returning calls." Wednesday spoke up, while Marley was looking around the office, not much had changed since she was last in there, which was when she started at Nevermore.
'A few new decorations but other than that nothing.'
"What were you doing out in the woods with him, Miss Addams, Miss Broditch?" Sheriff questioned, sitting in a chair opposite Weems' desk.
"I heard a noise in the forest and I went to go investigate." She said, already have thought of an excuse.
"And I saw Wednesday going into the woods so I followed." Marley told her side of the story, which was, surprisingly, the truth.
"That's when we stumbled upon the attack." Wednesday continued for both of them.
"Then what happened?" Sheriff Donovan asked, now curious.
"Then we ran into Bianca Barcley, and I told her to go for help." Wednesday paused before continuing. "Next thing I remember, I was awaking in my dorm." She finished.
"And just to be clear, this monster wasn't a bear or some other wild animal?" Galpin asked, still not believing them.
"I've hibernated with grizzlies. I know the difference." She deadpanned.
"Also the attacks don't match their hibernation schedules." Marley spoke up. Everyone now looking at her, "Well that's what Eugene said." She told them, looking back to the roaring fire.
"Thank you Sheriff." Weems, said getting out of her chair. "I think Miss Addams and Miss Broditch are done now." She said, for them.
"Actually, I would like for Marley and I to speak to Sheriff Galpin. Alone." Wednesday asked, bringing Marley out of her trans at the mention of her name.
At this the Sheriff looked to Weems, tilting his head as if challenging her.
"I'm not sure I can allow that." The Brit claimed.
"I'm sure I could take 'em to the station and get a formal statement." He offered, then plastered on the fakest smile one could muster for a second before it disappeared. "Yeah, let's go." He insisted, getting out of his seat.
"Fine." Weems caved. "You have five minutes, and everything is off the record." She started walking towards him, "Play nice... or I will call the mayor." She threatened, leaving the three of them alone.
As soon as the door closed Wednesday started talking.
"Someone is trying to cover up Rowan's murder." She stated. "That's the only reason to scrub the crime scene."
"Yeah no shit." Marley said causing Wednesday and the Sheriff to look at her.
"Is that your professional opinion as the daughter of a murderer?" He accused.
"My father is twice the man you are," she paused before continuing. "And the only thing he murders is the occasional opera in the shower."
At this Marley hung her head to make sure Wednesday didn't see her smile from the way she was protecting her dad.
But after this Marley didn't pay any attention to the rest of the conversation, because something felt very wrong. The static came back but she couldn't sense which direction it was coming from.
She closed her eyes to try and pinpoint it, but all that did was waste her energy.
Her attention was pulled from the static when the office door opened, the noise no less but she was now watching the officer.
"Sheriff?" She asked.
"What?" He gruffed back.
Marley moved from her place next to the fire to behind both Wednesday and the Sheriff.
"You're gonna wanna see this." She scoffed, moving the second door back to reveal someone behind the door.
Rowan was right in front of them, and the static Marley was hearing, if it was visual there would be a giant arrow pointing to Rowan.
Now she found the source of her 'spidey-sense' the question she has now was why is it pointing towards Rowan.
And her second question after it kicked in was how the fuck is Rowan alive?
A/N - i'm realising that since i'm publishing all of these in the same time span i'm running out of things to talk about in my a/n's (jesus that looks weird) so i'll try to think of things. if not. too bad.
