Janet
I slowly opened my eyes and was blinded by a light. Where am I? Where is everyone? What's going on? Why does my body hurt? "Uhhh." I slowly sat myself up as my eyes adjusted to the light. I was so confused about what happened. Looking over, I saw Idris and the kids sleeping. He was in a recliner with Winston and Isan was laying in a windowsill bench with Eissa on her chest. There were duffel bags and other bags on the floor. Now I was even more confused and worried. "Idris." My voice came out raspy. "Idris." He didn't wake up.I pushed the nurse button and waited. Not much later, an older black nurse came in. "Well, well. Look who's up." She came and brushed my hair back with her hand. It felt so nice. Her warm smile and touch made me feel calmer. "How are you feeling, honey?"
"Sore."
"That's understandable. They had to give you a lot of medication to help you."
"What happened?"
"Let me get the doctor so he can explain everything." I got nervous.
"Why does he need to explain? Is something wrong with my baby?"
"No. No, honey. Calm down. It's just that I'm not aware of everything going on. I'm filling in. Breathe." She rubbed my back. "Good. Now is there anything that I can get or do for you?"
"Can you wake my fiancé for me?"
"Of course." She fixed my pillow and helped me lay down before going to tap Idris and tell him I was awake. He immediately sat up.
"Baby." He stood up and came to the bed, after laying Winston down. Bending down, he kissed and hugged me. "I am so happy you're okay."
"I'll go tell the doctor that you're awake." The nurse left out.
"What happened?"
"You passed out. Your blood pressure shot up too high. They had to keep you asleep to fix it. It was a scary week but..." I sat up again.
"Week? I've been here for a week?"
"Yeah. It was scary for a while. Your siblings and mother, even your father were worried. Tito flew back in from London and everything."
"Oh my gosh. Are the kids okay?"
"They are now. They're finally sleeping. For a few days Isan wouldn't sleep. She would stay here while we went to get food or clean up. It took your mother to get her to sleep. Winston and Eissa wouldn't play. They just wanted to lay up here with you. When they finally went to sleep, we took them off the bed."
"And..." I rubbed my stomach.
"She's fine."
"She?"
"Yep. A very healthy girl and although she's a little small, the doctor said she is developing perfectly." I covered my face as tears fell from my eyes.
"I was so worried that we lost her and the nurse was just not telling me."
"No, baby. She's still with us." He took my hands down and wiped my face. He kissed my nose and forehead.
"She's fine.""Good."
"Knock knock." I looked and saw Mother and Rebbie.
"Hey guys." Mother came and hugged me tightly.
"It's so good to see you up." She held my face in her hands. "You gave us quite a scare."
"Sorry."
"You better be." Rebbie pushed my head then hugged me. "Don't scare me like that."
