Jenny takes the stage for her solo debut. She starts shy, making her team and their rivals doubt her abilities. But when the chorus comes on, she catches everyone's attention with her incredible singing skills, singing very high notes.
"Recovery Time Lapse Scene"
After blackmailing the plastic surgeon into giving her surgery, Hanna empties her apartment, leaves her dog in the care of Sangjun, and disappears. Her job becomes chaos as everyone is panicking looking for her everywhere otherwise they won't be able to release an album. Hanna and the surgeon pick out how her new face will look like. Hanna has the surgeries and recovers for a year, having to redo her nose and starting to work out. While running on the treadmill, she transitions from overweight to a much skinnier Hanna with the dream body she had always wanted.
RECEPTION
The movie became an immediate success. Since it was a more family-friendly movie, it received a much wider audience range. The movie was dubbed into 32 different languages. The movie also made a surprisingly huge success in central and Latin America. It was expected for '200 Pounds Beauty' to be a domestic success but it met beyond everyone's expectations and became a global hit.
Since China has the third-largest film industry in the world, YGH Studios made a great effort to get greenlit so '200 Pounds Beauty' could be distributed there. The movie made its debut in Chinese theatre 3 weeks after its global release with the exception of having a Mandarin dub. The movie made great success with its comedic nature making audiences laugh. The movie grossed $2,788,177,148.82 in China alone, making up almost 50% of the total box office. '200 Pounds Beauty' easily becomes the highest-grossing South Korean and Asian movie of all time with only 20% of its box office. In total, the movie becomes the 17th highest-grossing film of all time.
Many clips from the movie went viral. Throughout the movie, Jung Sol had many crying scenes to act out for her emotional character. Netizens said that her tears looked like crystals and that they had never seen someone cry so beautifully.
The makeup effects used on Sol to completely transform her were heavily praised. Many did not even recognize her at first as the makeup to make her look much bigger and overweight had worked like magic.
Putting aside the comedy of the movie, some serious topics that involved the movie were heavily discussed. The main two being body image issues and plastic surgery. Some criticized the movie for giving an underlying message that you should be skinny to be pretty, find success, love, and be able to love yourself. But those arguments were shut down as others argued that they take a movie about silly romance and comedy too seriously.
Three songs from the original soundtracks 'Beautiful Girl', 'Maria' and 'Tears' got very popular. 'Beautiful Girl' was played a couple of times in the movie, most notably when Hanna finally goes outside with her transformed look. 'Maria' is the most popular track gaining over 670 million streams across different platforms. Being known for the chorus's catchiness and the extensive need for powerful vocals abilities to reach the high notes. 'Tears' is the track used as Hanna's new debut. She takes the stage and performs the song around the end of the movie. 'Tears' is known to be an even more challenging song to sing than 'Maria', using a very wide range and demanding a lot from the singer. Even Sol had a tough time with the song since she was singing it live during the performance in the movie. They could not shoot the scene too often at a time because her vocal cords could get damaged but she was highly praised for her singing capabilities. Since the two songs are so difficult, it became a challenge, especially among idols to attempt the song's high notes, runs, and more.
For the cast, most of the actors were under YG Stage and there was even a cameo of Yang Hyun-suk, the chairman and former CEO of YG Entertainment. Hyunsuk played the record company CEO. The Blacklabel's recording studios were used as sets in the movie. Using many of their own resources, $2 million were saved. YG Entertainment's stock increased by 358.90% and YGH Studios' stocks increased by 596.37%.
