Back Story :

Panchal was a small yet independent province of India. In entire Aryabart it was known as the land of fierce and powerful fighter's land. All men along with women here were warriors. Be it Drupad or his fore-fathers. Hence it was not an astonishing facts that two firy and fiesty Princesses took birth in this holy land. One of them was the heroine of Mahabharata, Draupadi and the second one was her sister, the reincarnated from of our story's main female protagonist, Amba, named I'm this birth as Shikhandini. Our story started from this independence-loving holy land of Panchal.

The political scenario of Hastinapur was fast changing in 25 years. Both the Princes were now young. Among them, Dhritashtra was declined to be the King due to his blindness that had given birth hatred, distrust and wrath in his mind. His own younger sibling, Pandu, was bethroned in his place. By the way, in reality, Pandu was a peace-loving and just King unlike his violent and mentally and physically blind elder brother. Satyabati, Ambika and Ambalika faded away from the scene and died painfully under the holy hermitage of Maharishi Ved Vyas. Bhism was busy day and night to give proper guidance to King Pandu along with Minister Vidur. Due to the curse of Amba he forgot happiness or peace. Not a single day he could smile a bit. He had refuted her advanced for the throne of Hastinapur and the throne was now chained with challenges and responsibilities. He had neither time to stop nor to even breath. He was running endlessly to secure the dream of his dead father, "Akhand Bharat" or "United India" under Pandu.

One day, King Pandu had declared war against Panchal. The King had denied to obey him. He marched to the place with his army. But Panchal King Prishata along with his brave son Crown Prince Drupad fought with him bravely. They were master in every single form of combat. Drupad was master in creating hallucination on battlefield too in the boon of Lord Shiva. Hence, even after being a fierce fighter himself, Pandu lost the war to Drupad who captivated him. But his commander in chief was "Abadhya" or not to be dead. He was none but our story's male protagonist Bhism. He freed Pandu and demolished the huge army of Panchal. He created massive massacre in the battlefield and then eventually defeated Drupad and his father Prishata. By this unexpected lost of almost won battle king Prishata was baffled and made a Maha Yajna of Lord Shiva who gave him a boon to have a granddaughter to kill Bhism. That granddaughter of Prishata was none other than Shikhandini.

Story Unfolds :

At the time of the battle, Drupad was going to be father. His wife was in labor. Both he and his father wanted a girl child to destroy Bhism.

The King Prishata was pacing in his room with double speed. He was scared to death. For the safety of his daughter and daughter-in-law both. Actually he was his son Drupad's own father-in-law too. The story was that King Prishata had given marriage between his two most elder children, Prishati and Drupad to secure his own sacred bloodline. In this regard, his son Drupad was son and son-in-law both. However the reason of his worry was that Drupad's wife was in labor from the time of the battle. In 3 days the battle had ended but she was not giving birth. She was in labor for 3 days. Even the royal doctor or "Raj Vaidya" was scared about both the mother's and child's safety. The old and experienced midwife Mandra had announced that it must be her last pregnancy unless she would definitely die at her next time. She was already given birth to a boy named Satyajit beforehand. But this labor was fierce.

In the private chamber, Drupad's wife was tossing and turning in her bed in agony. Her pregnant body was now shivering unconditionally. She was kicking her limbs like a maniac. Two maids were standing before her head by holding each of her hands tightly in their hands. The pain seemed great and unending.
