"and isn't it just so pretty to think
all along there was some invisible string
tying you to me"

"I told you!" Tara stated, tossing a pencil at me. "I fucking told you!"

"Stop, Tara!" I laughed, lifting a hand to help protect myself from a flying eraser. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!"

"I can't believe you." She exclaimed. "I've been telling you for two years."

"Okay! I'm sorry. You were right!" I covered my face and she stopped throwing stationary.

Tara had been hanging out at my house, sitting at my desk while I sat on my bed, when I blurted out suddenly in the middle of our conversation, "I definitely have a crush on Wes."

Then she started throwing shit at me.

"I knew it! I knew it!" She put the last pencil she was holding back down on the desk. "But you kept on insisting."

"I know." I chuckled, removing my hands from my face. "It's just, over this summer, it's been different."

Tara shook her head and came to lie on my bed next to me.

"We haven't hung out as much, so I've been hanging out with Wes instead. And now I realise that I really like him." It had been a week since I found out Wes worked at the movie theatre and the more I had seen him recently, the more I had started to like him.

Now it had developed from a silly little crush to a full-blown I need him to be my boyfriend right now kinda thing.

"Don't worry, Y/N." Tara pat my shoulder. "I'll be your wingwoman. But you won't need much help because that boy is crazy for you."

"Sure."

"Y/N." Tara gave a serious look. "Don't test me."

I chuckled at her words and looked down as my phone screen lit up.

"Oh, my God. Oh, my God, Tara." I tapped her shoulder repeatedly until she looked at my screen.

Wesley :/ | what are you doing tonight??

---

Turned out Wes was home alone that night. Judy was working a late shift, being Sheriff and all, so Wes asked me if I wanted to sleep over at his.

And of course I didn't pass up that opportunity.

"So, what are you in the mood for?" Wes asked as he turned on the tv. I shrugged.

"Depends."

"On?"

"What do you wanna watch? Genre-wise, I mean."

The two of us were sat on the couch in his house, only a small gap between the two of us as we went through the different movies.

"Not a horror this time." Wes shook his head. "Mindy makes Chad and I watch them with her every time I go over there."

"Can we watch a rom-com?" I asked, turning my head to watch as Wes seemed to think about it. "Come on, please?"

He stared at me as I leaned closer, my chin hovering over his shoulder.

"Please, Wes?"

He looked away as his cheeks flushed. "Fine."

A smile pulled on my lips as I took the remote from his hand.

"Thank you." I wanted to kiss his cheek, but instead I just turned to face the tv again, putting on 13 Going On 30.

"What is this?" Wes asked and I turned to look at him.

"You've never seen 13 Going On 30 before?" I questioned him and he shook his head.

"No." He chuckled.

"Oh, my God. Wesley, you need a movie-cation. Well, a rom-com...cation."

"A rom-com-cation?" He repeated with an amused expression.

"Exactly. You need one, and I'm gonna give it to you." I pointed to the tv. "Starting with this."

He made a face and I glared playfully.

"You're gonna love them, I promise." I moved closer to him, just slightly. "Then we can watch 10 Things I Hate About You or How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days next."

"Why all the numbers?" Wes quirked his eyebrow. "10, 13, 30..."

"It's because it's fun and silly. Stop questioning everything and watch the movie."

"Fine." Wes caved, adjusting his position on the couch. "But only because I like you."

Only because I like you.

I couldn't help the smile that grew on my face at his words as I leaned back.

"What's this one even about?" Wes asked and I shushed him.

"Watch and find out."

"Is she gonna end up with her best friend?" Wes pointed at the screen. "That's so predictable."

"Shut up, you're ruining the fun part." I glared and he smiled.

"So I'm right?"

I went quiet and stared at the tv. Wes leaned closer.

"I'm totally right."

"Shh."

Wes then stretched his arm out along the back of the couch behind my head, and I leaned back in my seat so I was lying against it.

He didn't move his arm.

As the movie went on, I decided to talk again. With just some hints littered in.

"I always think it's cute in movies and stuff when the characters get together after knowing each other basically their whole lives." I said, not looking away from the tv in order to avoid his eyes. "The whole childhood friends to lovers thing. It just makes so much sense and, like... It's so perfect."

There was a beat of silence before Wes spoke.

"I know what you mean." He was looking at me and I turned my head to meet his eyes.

Right then would've been the best possible time for us to kiss. The movie, the conversation, us. But we didn't.

I still regret that.

Instead, we both looked back to the screen in front of us to continue watching the movie.
