"i wish i could live without you,
but you're a part of me"---
y/n's pov
I rang the doorbell at Wes' house and waited for him to come let me in.
He had texted me, asking me to come over, so I had. We hadn't seen each other for a few days, but I was glad we were going to hang out again.
The moment the door swung open and I saw my boyfriend, my jaw dropped.
"Wes! Your hair!" I exclaimed and he started laughing. His hair was no longer brown and was now a bleached blonde. "Oh, my God."
"Do you like it?" He asked and I reached forward to touch it.
"Yeah. Yeah, I do." I didn't take my eyes off of his hair as he let me into the house. "When the hell did this happen?"
"Uh..." Wes thought about it. "Two days ago."
"Two? And you didn't even tell me?"
"I wanted to see your reaction." He smiled and cupped my face with his hands to kiss me.
"Well, I think you look really really hot with your hair like this." I told him and then we started heading upstairs to his bedroom. "Who even did your hair anyway."
"Chad's girlfriend." Wes said and I raised an eyebrow.
"Liv dyed your hair for you?" I looked up at his hair again. "She did a good job."
"Yeah. I was at Chad and Mindy's and then Liv came over." Wes explained and we sat down on his bed. "And I was talking to Chad about dying my hair again and she was like 'I could do that for you right now if you wanted.'"
I liked watching him talk, his expressive hand movements made me smile. I leaned back against his pillows so I was lying down.
"So I was like, 'Yeah, okay, sure.'" Wes went on. "Then she asked what I would want so I said just bleaching it would be cool for now. Y'know, try being blonde."
I nodded before he gestured to his hair again.
"And so, yeah, this happened." He finished. "Now I'm blonde."
After an hour or so, Wes' head was lying on my belly as we lay on his bed together. My fingers ran through his blonde hair and his eyes were closed.
August 16th, 2021. The last week of Summer.
"I can't believe you bleached your hair and didn't tell me." I spoke what I had still been thinking the whole time.
He rolled over, resting his chin on my stomach and smiling.
"Yeah, but your reaction was funny."
"I was shocked, okay? It looks good though." I complemented him.
"I know, right! I love it." Wes spoke proudly.
"I'm not gonna lie, I kinda like it better like this than when it's brown."
Wes lifted himself up and pulled his body further up the bed so his face was right above mine. He leaned down and kissed me.
"What was that for?" I asked once we pulled apart.
He shrugged and lied down beside me. "Just because."
I let a breathy laugh escape my lips and rolled onto my side so I was facing my boyfriend.
"I gotta tell you something."
My eyebrows knitted in confusion but I nodded for him to go on.
"I love you."
His words took me by surprise. It was dumb but we hadn't even said that to each other before. My cheeks suddenly felt warm and I smiled. I knew I loved him. Hell, I'd loved him months before this.
I don't know why we had never said it, considering we had both known it for so long before hand.
I guess we loved each other so much we didn't even need to say it, we just knew already.
I leaned forward and gently kissed his lips. "I love you too."
His face brightened, looking happier than I had ever seen him, even after knowing him almost my whole life.
"Really?" He pushed some of my hair behind my ear as he propped himself up on his elbow.
"Yeah, of course." I lifted my body the same way. "How couldn't I?"
Wes chuckled lightly, cupped both sides of my face and kissed me, his smile not leaving his face.
"I'm so in love with you and I'm never going to stop." Wes said after pulling back, his forehead against mine and still holding my face.
And he didn't. Because he died.
"And I'm never going to stop loving you. Ever." I stated. And that was the truth. I still love him.
Wes kissed me again and moved so he was lying beside me.
"You're the most beautiful person on this entire planet." Wes told me, his voice a whisper as his eyes met my own.
That was the closest I had come to my heart exploding.
"That's impossible, because then who are you?" I asked him and he smiled.
"I think I'm a pretty good contender for second place." He said, letting his hand move to my waist.
"Maybe we should be tied for first." I suggested. "It's only fair that way."
Wes held me tighter and pulled me into a hug.
"Do you wanna go out and do something today? You know, because we only have a week left before we go back to school." Wes asked me and I sighed.
"Nah, let's just stay here like this." I buried my face into his neck and pressed a kiss to his neck.
We both ended up falling asleep pretty quickly and didn't wake up until the evening when we went out for dinner with his mom.
I miss both of them, really.
