"i see the eyes of unborn daughters,
i see you on a deathbed too
not long before or after me,
'cause i don't want to outlive you, it's true"

The room was dark. There wasn't even any light coming in from the window.

Wes and I were both under the covers, I was lying behind him with one arm draped over him.

The cold metal of my necklace was pressing into me, stuck between my chest and Wes' back.

Every so often, I would press a small kiss to the back of Wes' neck.

Judy had finally decided she trusted us enough that we could share a bed at night. No more spare bedroom for me.

I was practically asleep, and Wes was. His breathing was slow and calm, and his eyes were closed.

Just as I was about to pass out, Wes rolled over onto his back, which meant I had to get comfortable again.

So instead I rolled over onto my other side and kept my back to him, the only contact between us being one of his feet barely touching my leg.

But it was like he knew immediately because two seconds later he had his arms around me and his face in my shoulder.

I smiled and closed my eyes, too tired to move or talk. And I was asleep within a matter of seconds.

"Y/N." Wes whispered to me, waking me up.

I was confused, because he had just been asleep, and I didn't realize I had been asleep for an hour already.

"Y/N?"

"Hmm?" I rolled over to face him, but kept my eyes closed as I mumbled. "What? What time is it?"

"Doesn't matter. I'm gonna go get a glass of water, do you want anything from downstairs?"

I scrunched my eyebrows and opened my eyes to look at him.

"You woke me up for that?"

"Is that a no?"

"Can I have water too?"

"Of course." Wes kissed the side of my head before he climbed out of bed.

I fell back asleep before he came back.

"I can't believe there's only a month left of summer, then it's our senior year." Tara said while she and Wes were over at my house for dinner the next night. "I mean, that's so insane."

Wes brushed his hand through his hair and nodded in agreement. "You know, I have a good feeling about our senior year. I think it's gonna be good."

He was so terribly wrong.

"I can't wait to finish high school." I sighed. "I'm so sick of it."

"College has got to be better." Tara agreed. "I don't know what I'll do if it's somehow worse than high school."

"Come on, I'm sure we'll be fine." Wes shrugged, staying optimistic.
