Wes' head was resting against my thigh, using it like a pillow, as he read a book in my living room one January afternoon.
I held a PlayStation controller in my hand and was playing a game.
The sounds of my game, pages turning and the CD I had playing filled the silence between the two of us.
"Are you hungry?" I asked Wes after finishing another match and he looks up from his book and at me.
"Huh?"
"Are you hungry?" I repeated the question and he put his book down.
"Yeah. Why?" Wes put down his book and sat up.
"Because I'm hungry and I wanna go get food." I told him. "Come on, I'll drive."
I turned off the tv, grabbed Wes' hand and we both stood up.
"So, like, where are we going exactly?" Wes asked. "Because I did tell my mom we weren't going out anywhere, and if something happens-"
"Wes, don't worry. We'll be gone like 10 minutes and then we'll come back with the food." I told him as I grabbed the car keys.
I hadn't really driven much since my dad's death. But I was trying my best to ease into it.
But then I was overthinking.
What if we just went to get food, like my dad had gone to get groceries, and we never came back?
Or what if Wes died in the hypothetical crash and I didn't? It would be my fault and I would never be able to see him again.
I let go of Wes' hand before putting the keys down.
"You know what? Never mind." I shook my head with a smile. "We've got food here."
I started heading towards the kitchen, and Wes followed me.
"What's with the sudden switch?" Wes asked curiously as I opened the kitchen cupboard.
"Nothing. Just changed my mind." I turned my head to face him. "Don't worry."
He walked closer to me and sat his chin on my shoulder as I continued to look in the cupboard.
"Are you sure? Is it-"
"Wes. I'm fine. There's nothing to worry about. I promise." I turned around to face him and held his face in my hands, pressing a kiss to his lips. "I promise."
"Okay, okay." He sighed and moved his hands to my hips. "I just worry about you. I just wanna make sure you're okay."
That made a smile grow on my lips.
"While that's incredibly sweet, you don't need to worry about me. I think I need to worry about you." I stated and he gave me a puzzled look, his eyebrows furrowing. I moved one of my hands from his cheek and to his hair. "What's this I hear about you telling Chad you want to dye your hair?"
Wes chuckled and shook his head.
"It was just an idea. I never said that I'd do it." He said.
"You don't need to explain to me, I'm all for it." I let both my hands run through his hair. "So were you thinking like... a hot pink?"
"Oh, definitely." He replied sarcastically with a laugh.
"Or blue? You'd look so hot with blue hair, oh, my God." I ruffled his hair, messing it up a little.
"You think so?" He asked with raised eyebrows.
"I know so." I stated. "Not that you're not hot already. Because you really are."
Wes' face turned a little red and he kept smiling.
"Okay, so are we going to make some food or what?" He changed the subject and I turned back to open the fridge to see what food we had in the house.
"Right. Yeah." I paused. "I don't know if I'm hungry anymore."
"Oh, my God." Wes laughed.
"Oh, never mind, we have a frozen pizza in here." I told Wes after I opened the freezer. "Could you turn on the oven?"

"So how is my favourite ship sailing?" Tara asked as we FaceTimed the next night.
I rolled my eyes at her and lied down on my stomach.
"Everything's great, Tara." I told her, my fingers brushing against my necklace. "Why?"
"Because without a love life of my own I'm forced to live vicariously through you." Tara sighed. "I want to know everything."
"Well, I don't really know what you want me to say." I chuckled. "We kind of just... hang out together a lot. And make out all the time."
"I need someone to love me so bad." Tara groaned, shoving her face into her pillow.
"I love you, Tara." I said and she shot me a glare.
"You know what I mean, Y/N."
"I know." I paused. "Do you wanna come over and watch Dawson's Creek? You could probably stay the night."
"Does your mom let Wes stay the night?" Tara asked.
"Yeah, but she makes him sleep on the couch because apparently if we sleep in the same bed it means I'll get pregnant." I shook my head. "We haven't even had sex yet. I mean, we've only been dating for three months."
"Abstinence is the best form of birth control." Tara stated and I snorted.
"Shut up."
"Does the Sheriff let you stay over at their house?"
"Yep, but I get the spare room."
"Wow, they're really keeping you guys apart, huh."
"It's cruel, honestly." Then I got the conversation back on track. "So are you coming over or not?"
"I'll be over in like... 20 minutes."
"Cool, I'll just tell my mom."
"See you then."
"Bye bye."
"Sayonara."
"Adios."
"Farewell."
"So long."
"Ciao."
"Goodbye, Tara." I laughed and she waved before ending the call.
