"you're serious?", Kyla was wide eyed the following morning as she was eating her breakfast with Abby sitting next to her hospital bed.
Abby nodded, "yeah. i can't really believe it either, especially my mom's part in this."
"are you actually sure he's your real biologically proven father and not just a joke?"
"Gale immediately checked in all my medical records plus birth certificate last night and it's true."
"damn. and i thought mine was bad.", Kyla said.
Abby furrowed her eyebrows slightly, "what do you mean?"
"i actually found out that my dad is related to Mickey Altieri - ghostface killer of 1997. they were distant cousins. mom called me in this morning, so did my dad."
"well, i guess everyone in Woodsboro has some small crazy thing in their life."
"aren't you hungry yet? you haven't eaten anything except for that bag of chips last night."
"oh, i'm gonna eat breakfast at the cafeteria downstairs with Sam.", Abby told Kyla who broke into a big wide grin. "what?"
"oh, nothing. go on, i don't want you to pass out from hunger.", Kyla laughed and so did Abby who eyed the black haired girl suspiciously in a joking way as she exited the hospital room. she quickly made her way downstairs to the small cafeteria where she immediately spotted Sam waiting for her at a table, her brown hair let down loose but this time it was wavy and newly washed, slightly damped. Abby smiled, taking a seat across the table which already had two egg sandwiches that Sam bought few minutes ago.
"hey, how are you?", Sam smiled gently, eyes glued onto the blonde girl in front of her. at that point, she literally had heart eyes. Abby gave a small smile, replying, "better. i barely slept though."
"why?"
"i kept making sure Kyla was fine, she would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night from the pain of her wounds.", Abby explained, biting into the sandwich. "i could barely move as well when i tried to sleep."
"relatable.", Sam chuckled, mouth half full. she reached forward, her hand grazing on Abby's lip, wiping away a crumb. Abby felt her heart flutter, and her stomach turn at the touch of Sam. Sam on the other hand, felt a little nervous at the gesture she was doign and immediately shrugged it as she pulled away. both awkwardly chuckled softly before digging back into their food.
"so, um, how long will we be staying here?", Abby asked, trying to cut the tension between them. Sam licked her lips, thinking, "a week, i think. depends on the others' recovery. but i think they'll let you go home to grab some stuff and clothes."
"hm, thin chance. i'm not going home without Kyla.", Abby stated, gulping the lump in her throat as an image of Wes and her mother came into mind when she thought of home. or what used to be her home. Sam beamed, "you and Kyla are like siblings at this point."
"yeah, i mean, she grew up with Wes and i. so, Kyla's like the little sister i dreamed of having."
"didn't she move to San Francisco last year?", Sam asked curiously. Abby nodded, "yeah, her parents have been constantly travelling for business and gigs, so she stayed with her cousin but eventually they got sick and she had to take care of them since. she was working a part-time job while finishing school."
"is she going back after all this?"
"no, i'm not letting her go back. i already talked with her about it last night and she agreed to letting me take her in with me; we also called her parents aftewards." "but, Gale, you don't have a job or any source of income."
"Gale Senior has me covered.", Abby pulled out a white envelope from her pocket and handed it to Sam who opened it, peeking inside to find a good thousand dollars inside.
Sam let out an amused scoff, "holy shit, you better be good to Miss Weathers." their laughter filled the atmosphere of the quiet room of the cafeteria.
for once, they actually weren't worried about their lives being in danger or threatened by a masked serial killer.
well, for now.
"it's in! the email's here!", Kyla announced, running around the Hicks residence that was now standing empty, all the decorations and items that used to be there were all sold.
months had passed and Kyla had just received her letter from Blackmore University, the school she had applied to not long after the events of last year. "Abby! get your ass down here!"
"hold on!", she heard Abby's muffled answer, followed by a thud from the floor above her. upstairs, Abby had just finished placing the last of her unwanted things into a box as she was going to sell them. Abby sealed the box shut, pressing the sticky tape down on the cardboard surface carefully before cutting it. she dusted her hands as she got up and headed downstairs to the kitchen where she found Kyla standing by the kitchen island with her laptop on the counter. "this is it! let's see.", Abby said, slightly scared for Kyla whose hands were shaking as she clicked the email open.
the two's eyes immediately started reading over the letter, both their lips slowly stretching out into a wide smile seeing the big 'CONGRATULATIONS' on the header of the mail. "i got in! i fucking got in!", Kyla cried in happiness, jumping into Abby's arms. the two squealed, jumping up and down joyfully as they felt the wave of victory hit them.
"New York, here we come!"
