that following morning, the remaining survivors were sitting in the ambulance's back while Sam stood by the gates leading to the alley, smoking a cigar.
"i'll be back.", Abby told Kyla, placing a hand on her knee before standing up and approaching her girlfriend who still looked worried and tired from the attack.
"hey.", she softly said, gently tapping Sam who gasped quietly and turned. "hey, it's just me. okay?" "yeah..."
"it's not your fault, Sam.", Abby told her but the brunette shook her head, "but it is."
"you need to stop beating yourself. we didn't know he could break in so quickly."
"yeah, but we could've saved her."
Abby sighed, seeing a good point Sam had there. despite Abby not being close with Anika, it still hurt to see an innocent teenager lose their life to a psychopath. and Quinn... she did get a little weird with her sometimes, but it was probably because she always heard the moaning and shit from her room.
"Kyla!"
Abby and Sam's eyes travelled to where the voice came from. it was Leo Sulleys, Kyla's ex-boyfriend. the one who was trying to get back with Kyla yesterday.
"i came as soon as i heard.", Leo panted, slowing as he approached the group of teenagers whose guards were up.
Abby looked up at Sam who glanced at her at the same time. "additional suspect?", Abby suggested. Sam nodded, "we can't trust anyone outside." "right."
the two girls' conversation came to a halt when they heard Detective Bailey walking towards them, sobbing. Tara joined her older sister and Abby, the three exchanging glances. Abby looked intently at the older man who was grieving.
"i'm really sorry about Quinn.", Tara began.
he nodded gratefully, "thank you... both my kids are gone, my whole family... is gone." the cop sobbed a bit. "they took me off the case, but i'm not gonna stop until i find him...
you fuck with my family, you die."
something about how he said it made Abby feel off about something. there was something not sitting right with her about the man.
"agreed.", Sam replied.
clanking of heels came from behind them and it could only be one person - Gale. "hey, you okay? i came as soon as i heard."
"Gale, i swear to God.", Sam looked at the woman, irritated.
