Tw: Implied saucy sideThis chapter is dark.

Wilbur walked through the rubble of a district.

A proud grin easily fell on his face as he stared out at the destruction all around him, destruction he had caused.

He was only fourteen, yet he had accomplished so much as this character he had created, he had became the Muse.

District nine had always been annoying to him, it was an ugly sight on his maps, it ruined the view from  from his penthouse in second and finally-

It was where his mother was from, and she had hated it here.

So Wilbur hated it too.

His father dropped down behind him, his black wings stretching out behind him.

"Ready to go?" He had said all those years ago, his mask hiding the smile on his face.

He had understood back then, he understood why Wilbur wanted this district gone.

Why couldn't he understand now.

Wilbur loved his family, he would do anything for his family.

But they were so blind to opportunity.

When Wilbur saw an opportunity he grasped on to it and never let it go, his dear father and brother didn't.

And he wasn't one to pass up opportunity.

Nor was his mother.

"You listen here Wil." Her voice was warm but her eyes were clouded and distant.

"yes Mum." His eight year old self had said from where he sat on the floor.

"Promise me this baby." Her hand stroked through his brown curls. "When you see a chance, no matter what anyone else says you take it ok?  I spent my life missing every chance I got but you're going to be better than me. You are going to take every chance you get."

"Ok mama." He stared up at her, his brown eyes still filled with childlike innocence. "What about Techie and Dad?"

"Their so good honey, but they aren't like me and you, they don't see opportunity like me and you." Her eyes grew even more distant and foggy, her brown eyes turning a milky white. "You're like me Wilbur, so you've got to try extra hard to be nothing like me."

"But I want to be like you mama." He giggled. "Why wouldn't I want to be like you? You're the best mama ever!"

He didn't get it back then, why his mother started crying, why tears poured from her cold eyes but her expression kept its usual blankness. His young mind couldn't comprehend his mother being fragile, she was his mama after all, she was strong.

"Promise me you won't ever be like mama." Her voice trembled and her eyes flickered back to their  natural brown.

"Why? I want to be like you-"

"Promise me Wilbur. Promise me you won't be like me." She gripped his arms in a bruising grip.

"O-Ok-"

"Promise me boy!" She dug her nails  into his arm.

"I promise mother." A tear rolled down his cheek.

She leaned back in her chair and her eyes returned to their usual distant clouded look.

Wilbur's mother let her power take over her, in her mind it was the only way to be at peace. It was another chance she missed, a power meant to control others yet all she did was allow it to control her.
