"i have been breaking my own heart for centuries in the hope that one day, someone else can not break it; forgetting that in the end an ache is an ache is an ache, and a broken thing is a broken thing, no matter how it was smashed."

chapter 14

A hallway under the UA sports festival dome currently holds two students, each on opposite ends, looking at each other with their backs to the wall.

They don't see the two other bodies at the end of the hallway, hiding behind a wall as they listen in on the conversation. Noa feels her heart start to race as her brother continues talking.

"Iida and Kaminari, Yayarouzu and Tokoyami, Uraraka. None of them felt it. In that moment, I was the only one who felt your true power. It reminded me of something, experiencing All Might's quirk."

Noa's brows raise. That's certainly unexpected. She isn't the only one on to Midoriya, it seems.

"Oh yeah? O-Okay, is that all?" The boy replies meekly.

"I'm saying, the power coming from you felt the same as All Mights. Midoriya, tell me..."

Shoto pauses, Noa hears Midoriya gulp slightly.

"Are you really All Mights secret love child or something?"

Oh wow. Noa's jaw opens slightly, and she puts a hand over her mouth to hold back whatever sound of confusion and laughter she was about to let out.

"Well, are you?" Shoto repeats, growing impatient with Midoriya, who's likely caught extremely off guard.

"No! That's not it at all!" He yells. "But I guess if I was I'd totally say I wasn't, so you probably don't believe me no matter what, I bet. Anyway, I promise you've got the wrong idea." His voice is fast-paced, rushing as he tries to deflect.

"And..why would you even think that about me?"

"'That's not it at all' is interesting wording." Shoto replies, ignoring the question. Noa knows exactly what kind of face he would have right now, she mentally applauds Midoriya for holding up against it.

"It implies there is something between you two that you're not supposed to talk about."

Noa's growing suspicions only get more confirmed by the empty silence, indicating Midoriya has been backed into a metaphorical corner. Noa looks again at Bakugo, who looks back at her with furrowed eyebrows. Noa shrugs and Shoto speaks again, his voice slow and calculating.

"My father is the hero Endeavor, you must've heard of him. Which means you're aware he's the number two hero. So if you're connected to the number one hero in some way, that would mean that I have even more reason to beat you."
