chapter 19

Noa ignored the fire in her veins and the bitter taste in her mouth as she looked the number two hero in the eyes.

It wasn't something she did often. Usually she would keep her head down around him, look at his chin or eyebrows if she was forced to meet his face.

It was a respect thing, she used to tell herself.

Just recently she realized it was more of a blind submission thing, one of many results of being forced into obedience for ten years.

Now his icy blue eyes stared back at hers, fire billowing off him in waves.

"What can I do for you, Endeavor?" Noa said, her voice empty. The lack of tone had the hero clenching his teeth.

"The way you are fighting is erratic and unprofessional. I trained you better than that."

Noa blinked slowly and took a deep breath, trying to find the strength to bite her tongue and failing miserably.

"If you call abuse training, then yeah. But don't blame me for my emotions when you and your son are largely the cause of them."

The flames surrounding Endeavor increased in size and temperature, growing furious.

"You tread on thin ice, Noa. I would watch my words if I were you."

A scoff escaped her lips. "Or what? Are you gonna kick me out? Disown me? Go ahead. I know when I'm not needed."

An angry but skeptical look flashed through the hero's eyes. "You overheard Shoto and I's conversation."

She nodded tightly, pressing her lips together.

"I've come to terms with the fact that you haven't and never will see me as a daughter, let alone a person. You used me and your son for your own succession, and guess what? You still failed." She said with a small laugh. "I have to ask, have you grown comfortable living in All Mights shadow? You must've after such a long time."

Endeavor was shaking, his fists balled. Noa rolled her eyes at him, her defiance only angering him further.

"I will succeed in making Shoto best that fool. Don't act like you know my accomplishments, child."

"The only thing you accomplished is making your entire family hate you." She spat.

"At least I have a family." He said, the words stinging no matter how hard Noa tried to ignore them. "Do not consider yourself welcome in my household, you brat. Show your face around my family and you'll wish I had left you with the villains."
