"we are drinking gasoline and lighting matches as if we aren't flammable; i'm burning in your heat but you're dancing in the flames."
chapter 16
☆
Noa's leg bounces furiously as she picks at her nails, waiting anxiously for the next match to start.
She should be focusing on how the hell she's going to beat Tokoyami, but her mind is racing, thousands and thousands of thoughts going a mile a minute.
Shoto vs Midoriya.
She doesnt know how the match will go. She obviously is leaning towards Shoto winning, but Midoriya can tend to be.. infuriatingly resilient. His determination is unrivaled, unless maybe you counted Bakugo.
Noa follows him to the hall when he gets up to prepare for his fight. She means to ask him about Tokoyami, if he knows anything about his quirk and how his fight with Momo had gone. She hates that she has to ask for help, but she's at a loss here, and the kid knew everything there was to know about quirks.
"Midoriya." She calls when they're out of the way of their classmates. She tries to make her voice a little softer, in order not to startle him.
He turns around, smiling tightly. "Oh- Hey, Noa. What's up?"
He's tense around her, doesn't know how to act or how to process the information he learned from Shoto. He feels awful, really, but it's not like he could've known what he was going to tell him.
"It's just- I know you're kind of a...quirk encyclopedia. And I try to take mental notes of our classmate's quirks, but I have close to nothing on Tokoyami."
Izuku relaxes, steps a little closer so they can speak comfortably instead of semi-yelling.
"Well I don't know much, and I don't really wanna give you an unfair advantage.." He trails off.
Noa cant help the words that come out of her mouth, but she hates herself for saying them. "I'm under strict orders...being the number two hero's lapdog and all."
Midoriya freezes, his shoulders tensing. He has the image of Shotos lip curling around the word as he said it, as he talked about his sister. The near venemous tone he used.
He gulps. "I'm- I'm sorry. That you heard that. And that he said it. And that I was the one he said it to."
"It happens." She shrugs, trying to shove away the guilt and emotions. Why did she have to say the lapdog thing? It was manipulative and cruel.
"Uh not really." Izuku says, breathlessly laughing. Noa fights a smile.
"Well I really have to get going, but Tokoyami is really strong. He has a sensitivity to light, which I don't mind telling you since you don't have a light-emitter-type quirk."
