"someone has to leave first. this is a very old story. there is no other version of this story."
chapter 15
☆
Shoto's match is over before it starts.
Sero comes into it stretching, talking about how he probably won't win. The moment Present Mic says begin, he flings his tape toward Shoto, wrapping it around him and swinging him around the arena like a rag doll. It's a good move, she makes a note to try something like that during training.
"But man, I really don't wanna lose!" He says as he whips him around again. He gets an A for effort, at least.
Shoto looks up slowly. "Apologies."
Not only does the ice barrage completely immobilize Sero, it's tall enough to reach the top of the stadium and powerful enough to shake the arena. The crowd is stunned, and as Sero is declared unable to move, someone begins a series of 'nice try!'s throughout the entire crowd. Shoto, a blank but surprised look on his face, steps towards Sero. Noa's face remains impassive, but inside she knows something happened, and it most certainly fueled that attack.
"I'm sorry, I went overboard." He says as he places a hand over the ice, using his left side to melt him out of it. "I was angry, is all."
He looks so.. defeated. Even if he won, he looks sad.
Noa fights against the cold as she stands up and makes her way down the stairs, toward one of the waiting rooms. The next two fights will pass quickly and easily. It's Kaminari against one of the girls from Class B, then Iida and the support course student. Neither of them matters to her. She walks mindlessly through the halls, putting one foot in front of the other. Shotos words from earlier keep playing through her mind. What he called her, the stories and memories he brought up.
"Noa."
The very same voice comes from behind her. She stops and turns, forcing a small smile onto her face. She hates the feeling.
"Congratulations, Shoto. Good luck on your next match."
Her voice is abnormally chipper, trying her best to sound perfectly fine. Shoto hesitates. She would normally never tell him that. She would ask what happened, if he was okay, why he had used such an overkill attack, soothe his burning thoughts toward his father.
"Wh- Y- Noa." He yells softly before she can turn away.
She stops, gritting her teeth. "Can I help you?"
Shoto is taken aback by her unusual niceness, the falsity of it showing through no matter how much she tries to hide it.
"No, I just-"
"Then I'd better get going. I have a match to win, and you have one to prepare for."
She leaves after that, not letting Shoto finish, leaving him in that hallway wondering what he did wrong. Is it the calvary battle? Is she upset that he turned her down? Or is it something else?
