P5 Composition 7

"Ahh!"a glass shattering voice rang through out the whole school.The scream was followed by loud and hurried footsteps from the canteen.Vendors were seen running helter-skelter away.Their faces were panic-strickened and as pale as death.Sweat was dripping from their foreheads.Seconds later, venomous orange flames burst out of the metal sheets engulfing everything in its way mercilessly.The fire devoured tables and chairs hungrily.

Mrs Koh , our school principal heard the commotion and rushed out of her cozy office to investigate. Running towards her was Mr Lee, a vendor who hurriedly explained that a refrigerator caught fire and exploded.Mrs Koh snapped into action odering vendors to extinguish the fire by pouring buckets of water on it.Some vendors were already at it. The rest of the vendors followed orders obediently despite the heat from the flames. They tried to extinguish the fire but to no avail. Devouring everything in its path, the fire still raged on. As though it could read the vendors' minds, it charged at them menacingly. "Call the fire fighters!"Mr Lee shrieked hysterically.

The crimson red fire truck arrived in the nick of time. Fire fighters were seen charging bravely into the canteen putting out the fire.The fire died approximately ten minutes later. By then the principal had already announced the incident to the whole school.Students were told to remain in their classes until further instructions were given. The students were filled with trepidation and dread. Some looked terrified while others a face of amazement.

This particular fire was exceptionally ferocious but luckily no casualties were reported despite the charred and defaced canteen which was filled with the pungent smell of smoke.

The next day, this incident was all over the headlines and the pupils especially were debating over the cause of the explosion. Was it really the refrigerator?
