Chapter 14: The Room of Requirement

It has been a few days since the scene with Ominis and even with Sebastian. It crossed my mind a fear that if Sebastian ever found out about what happened this summer would he hurt Ominis even though he has been his long time friend? I also question why Ominis is not budding in and telling him. I sit on my bed thinking about getting together with the boys. It made me nervous because who knows what they will be talking about. I've been staring at my Potion's homework for about twenty minutes and haven't even written a thing. My mind has been all over the place. I hear the door unlock and see Poppy step in. She had a huge smile on her face when she saw I was alone. I am usually with Sebastian and he actually had class during this time so this is a time where we aren't together. It was kind of nice being alone to myself.

"No Sabastian?" Poppy waltzed in our room, spinning in a circle.

"No, not today." I keep my head in my textbook, struggling to move past the same paragraph I've been stuck on for what seems to be forever.

"Huh. It's been awhile since it's just been the two of us." Poppy says curiously, walking over to look at my book.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask, feeling insecure from her comment.

"Really? Well let me tell you!" She pulls up a chair from her desk and sits next to me, crossing her legs. "Sebastian is always in here, always snoring, stealing from my stash of muffins! And don't get me started on how someone sneaks his way in here without us and waits for you. He acts like he owns the place. He's a Slytherin, Violet! This isn't even his own common room...not that theirs is very inviting but still!" I smile to myself at Poppy's rant, Sebastian did make himself rather comfortable here.

"Okay, I'm not going to argue with you on that. But, why don't you invite Garreth over?" I peek my eyes up at her from my book, watching her face blush at the mention of Garreth.

"You two had sex in here last week! I know I may have acted like I was asleep but no, mm mm. This is the second time, second time!" She pointed her finger at me, shaking it in a disapproving manner.

"Poppy stop!" I say with embarrassment. In my defense Sebastian made a move while I was trying to fall asleep. "Okay Poppy, you still didn't answer my question. If Sebastian is here so often, why can't you invite Garreth?"

"I can't do that Violet!" She covers her face. "I-I-I wouldn't even know how to ask him. The only time we've been alone with each other like truly alone was walking to Hogsmeade. I'm not ready to be alone..with him!"

"Weren't you alone with Garreth at the Gryffindor party?" I raise an eyebrow at Poppy.

"That was completely and entirely different. Besides, what if Garreth is feeling some kind of way, like that? Everything comes so naturally to you, like with Ominis. You guys just have this gravitating connection and history together. Garreth and I don't have history yet with each other. Our story just started! And with Sebastian too..I mean." Poppy looked down and furrowed her eyebrows. She looked like she wanted to continue but stopped herself.

"It's not always so easy, Poppy. Sometimes I wish I knew what they were thinking, how they felt." I frowned. I want to know what Sebastian thinks all the time. What he feels when we are together or even when we aren't.

"Exactly! If I could place myself inside of Garreth's lovely redhead I could better decipher what's going on between us....-that's it!" Poppy squealed, taking my potions book out of my hands. I started to yell in protest as I lost my spot when Poppy pointed at something rather brilliant. "This, this right here! Polyjuice potion. We use this and we can go to the get together with the boys, no more wondering what they're thinking!" She pointed at a page in the book excitedly.

"A..Polyjuice potion?" I ask. "Poppy, that's..brilliant! But you realize making a Polyjuice potion can be extremely dangerous and risky, right?"

"Oh, yeah you're right. We can ask Garreth for help!" She smiled confidently before realizing Garreth could not in fact aid in our potion making. "Oh, right."

Poppy and I finalized our plan to spy on the boys. It was rather brilliant besides the logistics of how and who we were going to be. But first and foremost we needed a space to brew the potion in private. We'd never get away with it in the potions classroom. Professor Sharp was always there. The ingredients would also be a struggle, there was no way we could get our hands on Boomslang Skin. I surely learned my lesson trying to steal from Professor Sharp's office unless..we give a visit to The Room of Requirement.

I dragged Poppy up the stairs by the Astronomy Tower, finding that special hallway where the entrance was hidden. I never told Poppy about the Room of Requirement, I never told anyone actually. I made Poppy turn around and close her eyes before entering the secret room, gently leading her into the domain.

"Okay, now open your eyes." I whisper to Poppy, turning her around.

Poppy opened her eyes and lowered her jaw, she was speechless at the sight of the creation. Green vines tangled from the ceiling onto the floor, candles placed strategically on the marble ground flickered softly. Bookcases lined the walls while ornate paintings and vintage mirrors adorned the others.

"It's beautiful!" She whispered, taking in all of her surroundings.

"Remember when I told you I put Highwing somewhere safe?" I wrap an arm around Poppy, leading her to where the coastal Vivarian was.

"Oh, Violet! It's been so long my dear friend." A gentle voice beckoned. Deek had appeared with a brush in one hand and a bucket in the other. "My, who must you be?" Deek smiled at Poppy. I introduced him to Poppy and they exchanged formalities.

"Deek has been taking the best of care for all the animals in the Vivarian, including Highwing." I smile at Poppy. Tears had run down her face as she knelt down to hug Deek. "This is your space now, too. You can visit Highwing whenever you please, and maybe acquire more sneaky nifflers."

"You mean it?" She cried a little harder, rubbing her nose. I reassured Poppy at the offer and caught up with Deek for a moment.

"Well, Deek. We have some potion brewing to do. But I don't remember if I ever finished the potion area." I look around, thinking hard about my work here from last year. Deek smiled and led us to the potion area of the Room of Requirement. It wasn't much, but it would work. I thought about what we would need and before I knew it, the whole room transformed. Shelves and shelves of every ingredient you could imagine appeared. Cauldrons of all sizes assorted themselves. It was more grand than Professor Sharp's office, that was for sure.

Poppy and I began to brew our potion. Poppy added the four leeches to the cauldron while I started to crush the lacewing flies into a fine paste in a mortar and pestle. The Polyjuice potion would take roughly eighteen hours to brew in a copper cauldron, everything we needed we had at our disposal, except the hairs.

"Oh my god, we never decided how we were going to get hairs, who we were going to get them from most importantly!" I screech, panic bubbling up inside me. Poppy stopped stirring the potion and widened her eyes at me.

"Ummm-" Poppy started to panic alongside me, weighing our options.

"Perhaps, I could be of assistance?" Deek walks over, eagerly looking at us for approval. "We wait till the day of to add the hairs. I can help acquire the..subjects for such a potion."

"You're serious?" I ask Deek, feeling perplexed at his answer.

"We'll let this brew for 18 hours, just in time for Saturday. You two come here a quarter till five and we shall add the hairs. Deek can handle this".
