The written exams portion went by quickly. Inasa and I have spent the last year intensively studying for it, even if he was going to be taking an easier exam that just measures his intelligence. Inasa is never one to cut corners, so even though our father told him long ago that he was going to recommend him, Inasa still studied as if he had to take the regular entrance exams with me. It helped me to stay focused as well, though neither he nor I were particularly bad students. The extra studying certainly made me feel more confident as I was taking the tests.
After the written exam, all the applicants filed into the auditorium to await the practical exam explanation next. There was only two others from our middle school there, and since we were seated by school, I was unfortunately sat next the obnoxious Neito Monoma. He was at least never one of my personal bullies about my eye, he's just got a few screws loose and torments everyone equally. Doesn't make me like him any better.
"OH?" Monoma's pompous voice sounds loudly next to me as he takes his seat to my left. "What's this? Daddy didn't give you a recommendation?! Is that where your brother is right now, taking the recommendation exam while you slum it with the regular students?? You didn't earn his recommendation as well??"
"Ugh, you're here in the regular entrance exam too, Monoma, so that means you didn't get a recommendation either. Chill out." I roll my eyes at him, feeling my energy drain marginally just from his presence. He's been Inasa and I's schoolmate all through middle school, so he knows us somewhat, but we were never close despite him always being in my class. I dislike him for being a bully to everyone, but he's at least never malicious with it. Plus he has an easy enough 'off' switch that I occasionally enjoy exploiting.
"So how does it feel to be the least favorite twin? Does it hurt knowing daddy doesn't –" I cut Monoma off by chopping him in the back of the neck with the side of my hand. He slumped forward in his seat as another girl from our middle school sat on his other side.
"Let me guess, he went on another tirade?" The girl, Saki something, asked as she grimaced at the blonde boy.
"When doesn't he?" I roll my eye and give her a kind smile. She wasn't in our class but I think she was in Inasa's. I don't remember her name or her quirk, but Monoma was fairly well known as a crazy tyrant in our school, so I'm not surprised she knows him. Inasa and I were always separated in our classes since about our third year of elementary school, apparently we're a 'handful' when we're together or something.
When the lights all dimmed and a stage light came on aimed at the Pro Hero and teacher Present Mic, I elbowed Monoma and woke him up so he could pay attention. Thankfully, whenever he wakes up from getting hit he usually shuts up and acts like a normal human again for a while. During those times he's fine to be around, he's only a menace when he's got his screws loose.
Present Mic explained the robots for the exam and the points process, but it seemed rather simplistic for a hero course. He was interrupted by a loud blue haired boy with glasses, but otherwise the presentation went quick.
Everyone was directed to changing rooms and then sent to several different testing areas. Monoma, the Seki or Suki something girl, and I were all separated to different places. Monoma pouted a bit, he knows my quirk is strong and probably would have utilized it well during the exam. He still oddly gave me a sincere good luck before we parted ways. It's almost more exhausting when he's being nice versus being crazy, I never know what to expect.
"Wow, that's a huge gate." I hear a voice behind me once I reach the designated testing area, and turn to see who spoke. It's a boy around my height with medium length straight black hair and shark-like pointed teeth. His face is currently split in awe and nerves as he looks up at the gate our test group is gathered at. "Is there really a whole fake city behind that!?"
