Chapter 19: Internships

"Hiya, kids!" Tokoyami and I hear from above us as we walk up the front entrance of the Hawks agency. We both look up and spot the crimson winged hero smiling down on us as he slowly lands next to the door.

"Hello sir." Tokoyami says formally with a slight bow.

"Hiya, Hawks!" I say at the same time with an energetic wave, grinning ear to ear at meeting one of my top favorite heroes.

"Wow, talk about night and day." Hawks chuckles, looking between the two of us as he holds the door open. "Follow me, we'll get you settled in. Over there is the reception area, and over there is where we'll pick up assignments, on the fifth floor is the gym, the 9th floor is where your rooms will be for the stay, and the top floor is my office. Go ahead and get changed after you put your stuff away and we'll get started on patrol. Hurry up now!" He says all of this very quickly, speed walking through the first floor as he points things out and calls the elevator down. He doesn't board the elevator with us though, simply waves and leaves us in a flash.

"Um, ok then." I chuckle as the elevator doors closed.

"Seems we'll have to be fast to keep up with him." Tokoyami says with a sigh. "Let's hurry then, I feel like he won't wait long for us."

"I wonder if he gets easily distracted too?" I idly think out loud as I notice similarities between the speed talking hero and myself.

"I fear that may be the case. I'm not sure I can handle two of you." He sighs as the doors open to our room floors.

We find our rooms easily enough. They're next to each other and have little chibi drawings of ourselves on them. I'm in love with the little goggle wearing girl sitting on a tornado, and I'm totally going to steal that at the end of the week. Tokoyami's is a cute little raven black bird sitting in a nest with a smiley face in it's shadow. I might steal that too and give it to him, since I know he'll likely leave it behind in embarrassment.

We get changed super quickly after putting our stuff away. Our rooms are identical and simple, just normal but nice hotel style bedrooms with a bed, desk, wardrobe and TV, and we each have our own bathroom. Thankfully, my goggles got repaired quickly after Todoroki broke them, and Power Loader ended up adding an extra reinforcement to them for me so they will be harder to break in the future.

I was just adjusting the goggles to rest on the top of my head when we stepped out of the elevator onto the top floor. The entire floor is Hawks' office, so the doors opened right into a large lounge like setting. We find Hawks sprawled out and relaxing on the plush couch waiting for us.

"Alright kids, let's go over the boring stuff before we head out to keep the city safe." Hawks says with a smile as he instructs us to take a seat across from him. "Go ahead and tell me what you want to learn during this and I'll tell you what to expect and all that. Ladies first." He finishes with a wink to me and I feel the tiny blush before talking excitedly. He's a super good looking guy.

"I want to get better with my flight and speed." I answer right away as I sit forward in my seat. "I've never really gotten to practice much with my flight, at least not much higher up than a few yards. I also noticed during my battles that my speed could use some improvement, like a lot of improvement. I want to focus on those this week, so any pointers would be super appreciated." I tell him excitedly before adding on quietly and sheepishly. "Also, I'm a super big fan and it's great to meet you!"

"After seeing you in the sports festival, I'm a fan of both of yours too!" Hawks says happily. "I'll whip you into top flying shape by the end of the week. My motto is, always be the fastest, so your whole goal for the week is to work on catching up to me. By the end of this week, we'll have a race!" He says challengingly with a smirk, one that I match happily. "Great, next up is bird man. You caught my attention too during your fights, and us avian's gotta stick together, ya know?"
