"Enjolras! Marius! Visitor at the barricade!" someone yelled and a few faces peered over the top of the barricade. A few guns stuck out of small holes and took a step back.

"It's just a kid!" someone else exclaimed. I took another step back, unsure if these people were safe. One person with fluffy, blond hair and blue eyes raised himself a little higher over the wall.

"Hey, don't run!" he exclaimed. I took a few steps closer. A few more faces appeared over the wall. One, with brown hair and grayish-green eyes looked down at me.

"What's your name?" he asked. I hesitated, unsure if I should say. But, they hadn't killed me yet.

"Elaine," I said, just loud enough for them to hear.

"Jeez, kid. How old are you?" one boy with curly black hair who looked a bit confused asked.

"Grantire," I heard someone scold from behind the barricade.

I was about to answer when someone shouted in the darkness.

"Elaine!" It was my father. I heard confused mutters from behind the barricade. I looked around nervously, as if my father might appear from the shadows and take me home. I realized dimly that I was shaking with fear.

"Hey, Elaine!" The blond boy whispered quietly. "You okay?" I shook my head, covering my mouth in hopes to stop the sobs from coming out. I heard muttering from inside the barricade as the blond boy climbed over and hurried towards me.

"Be careful, Enjolras. It could be a trap," someone hissed. The blond boy-Enjolras-didn't reply. He approached me quickly and looked around in the darkness. Enjolras put an arm around my shoulders as I shook in the middle of the street.

"Elaine!" My father called again. This time, I couldn't help it-a sob escaped my lips and the tears began to slowly fall.

"Come on, it's okay," Ejnjolras was saying. He grabbed my arm with his free arm and led me towards the barricade. "I promise, you're safe." My father called out into the darkness again and it was getting louder. He was getting closer. I froze in my spot; I couldn't move. Enjolras picked me up easily and carried me to the barricade, climbing inside. Once we were safely on solid ground, he put me down. I stood on the ground, Enjolras kneeling on one knee next to me, looking around. The other boys stood around us, some keeping watch, others mumbling to each other, some just watching me (which I hated). My father kept calling for me. After a few more times, I couldn't take it anymore. He was going to come back and take me from Enjolras's sturdy hands and do something likely horrid. I turned to my right and buried my head in Enjolras's shoulder, sobbing silently. Every time he called, my breathing sped up and I shook violently. However, Enjolras held me tight and never left, whispering soothing words into my ear. Eventually, we were confident it was over and he had gone home. "Are you okay?" Enjolras asked. I nodded.

"I think so," I said.

"Well, I'm Enjolras. That's Marius," he pointed to a boy with brown hair and grayish-green eyes. "That's Courfeyrac," he pointed to another boy with dark, floofy hair. "Grantaire, Combeferre, Feuilly, Jehan, Joly, Bahorel, Jean Prouvaire, and Lesgle," he rattled off, pointing to each of the other boys. "What happened?" Enjolras asked. I didn't think I was ready to recount the night's adventures. I think Marius saw my panic and stepped in.

"How about we save this for the morning?"Enjolras and Marius seemed to have a silent argument that Marius won.

"Courfeyrac, can you show her to one of the bedrooms? We'll speak of this in the morning," Enjolras said. One of the boys, one with dark floofy hair and a small face walked towards me and stuck out his hand with a small smile. I took it and allowed him to lead me upstairs inside the cafe.

The rooms were tiny, but at least it was a bed to sleep in where I felt safe. There were beds lined up all across the room, but I was the only person occupying one. I quickly drifted off to sleep.

AN:

BTW I picture the characters as they were in the 2012 movie. Hope everyone's doing great! I missed writing/publishing fanfics.
