For Grandad. RIP.
I'll always remember that day
When I came home from school
To find out you'd been taken away
Gone upstairs to heaven
And I would never see you again
Cancer has always had a dark claim to fame
Taking the lives of the innocent
Like pawns in a chess game
It was a bitter pill for a five year old to swallow
The events of that day in '99
Left me broken, empty and hollow
Your story was one that the finest authors couldn't write
Your personality was something that the great architects would never design
Your secret gift was one that even the best treasure hunters wouldn't find
And your heart was formed from a gold that no amount of money could buy
So why did lightening have to strike you twice?
I'll always cherish the short years we spent together
The memories we created will live with me forever
I've never really had the chance
To express my greatest thanks
To a very special man
For the trips to Charlie Chalk's
Or the ride on Thomas the Tank
Or the endless games of Snooker
Against a trick shot specialist computer
Even now I can still hear you speaking your classic line
When our opponent come up with an impossible shot
That blew our minds
A heavenly sign
A gift from the Gods
"Well I don't believe it, the jammy sod!"
More than that I want to say thank you for the most important thing
Thank you Grandad for your everlasting and unconditional love
Its an honour to be your Grandson
You may be long gone
But your legacy will live on
Forever remembered
A shining light in heaven
You always stood strong
Without you things will never be the same
But in my heart you will remain
Forever and always
