People often say when things go wrong

Take a good look at yourself in the mirror

And consider what you see

My answer

Reality

The real me

The fucked up Fifty Shades of Mayberry

I see the hospital incubator housing a tiny baby

Who would soon begin a lifelong battle with Cerebral Palsy

I see the young ten year old boy

Who for years was haunted by the memory

Of his own father's hand around his throat

As he looked into those wide, piercing eyes

And prayed silently

Begging for mercy

I see the terrible teen who destroyed his first love

Injecting his poison slowly

And breaking her down piece by piece

I see the expert in breaking hearts

The innocent proven guilty

By the damning evidence

Of tearing his family apart

I see the prisoner shackled in chains

Paying the ultimate price for his evil little word game

As the voice in his head would say

"You only have yourself to blame."

I see the serial offender who makes mistake after mistake

The guy who would just stand by

And watch everything he ever wanted go up in flames

Wherever he goes the light seems to fade

I see the man who promised her he loved her so

Before abandoning her

And leaving another innocent girl out in the cold

I see a stranger confined to the outside

Leading a deservedly lonely life

A man now at an all-time low

Making a living in the shadows

The evil, the poison, the pain and the heart break

All of which I was the one to make

The devastation, deceit and unprecedented deception

I see it all staring back at me

In my reflection
