Wednesday squinted at her typewriter while she struggled through the last sentence of the page's final paragraph.

Click, clack, click.

The noise the keys made when her lacquered fingers pressed them had become intolerable over the last few weeks.

Thing watched as she finished her work and raised a hand to her pounding head.

It was almost as if her body punished her for what she had done.

"Oh, stop it..........I left with no expectation between us." Wednesday whispered while Thing tapped his ring finger as anyone else would have done with their foot.

When she finally pulled her hand away, Thing pointed to the scar on her neck from Xavier's bite mark.

It annoyed her to her core that her friend had managed to glimpse the wound one morning when she had foolishly chosen to sit up in bed without clutching her pajama collar over the area.

"So.......?" Wednesday asked as she rubbed the spot on her neck, "Maybe that's what's happened.......Xavier may not be a Hyde, but a poisonous monster still. I've never felt the same since he sank his teeth into my flesh."

Thing leapt up and crashed down flat on the desk to spread his palm in a silent gesture of consternation.

"I told you, I'll see a doctor soon." Wednesday shrugged as she turned back to her typewriter.

She sighed as she contemplated the work that lay ahead.

With ten chapters due later in the week, she knew she would have little choice but to fulfill her promise of seeking medical care.

It had taken her nearly two hours to type that single page against the painful pounding in her head that screamed for the noise to stop.

Desperate to stay on schedule and meet her deadlines, Wednesday pulled one of her desk drawers open, took out a small, silver compact, unhinged it, and withdrew two pills.

As she reached over to take a sip from her black water bottle, Thing tapped his fingers against the wood in impatient disapproval.

"I know I've had a lot of them lately and I don't care.....It's just acetaminophen." Wednesday scowled, "Laudanum doesn't work for this.....I don't know why."

When Thing's rapping grew louder, she let out a frustrated sigh and nodded, "Fine.......One more page and I'll make an appointment."

Her scowl relaxed slightly as she looked at her dismembered companion and asked, "........Will  you be happy then?"

Thing ceased his rapping as he spread his fingers out in a gesture of satisfaction.

Relief washed over Wednesday when she realized their agreement garnered Thing's silence.

She could barely stand the sound of her typing, that hideous, metal clicking coupled with Thing's incessant rapping against the wood would have made her throbbing headache completely intolerable.

Lurch drove Wednesday into town for her meeting with the doctor later that week.

It was a rainy Friday, but Wednesday didn't mind the gloom as the car hurried along the road.

The day was cool and as Lurch waited behind like any decent chauffeur, Wednesday checked herself in once they arrived.
