Wednesday woke to the sound of a needy little coo.

As soon as she glanced over and noticed Xavier still asleep beside her, she sighed under her breath as she stood from the bed and walked over to the bassinet across the room.

Her expression remain unchanged as she bent down and scooped her smiling, baby boy into her arms, but her touch was as gentle as any loving mother's while she carried him back to her nest.

Careful not to disturb Xavier, Wednesday settled them both under the covers and unbuttoned her nightshirt to let her little one have his breakfast.

When a rustling motion ruffled the duvet, Wednesday glanced over and blinked as she realized her alpha had roused.

"Good morning, Xavier." She said quietly.

"Good morning, Wednesday." He yawned before he glanced down to see Desmond at her breast.

"He'll wean when he's ready." She snapped, almost defensively, "And he'll move into his room when he's ready. The bassinet gets closer to the door every night."

"Did you think I'm rushing any of that?" Xavier asked as he sat up and stole a kiss from her lips.

Wednesday's dark eyes flashed with a sense of silent remorse as she contemplated the possibility that she had misinterpreted his groggy glance.

Before they all rose to start their day, the little family huddled together under the bed covers for a while in a warm, comfortable snuggle.

Desmond had no idea about the party that was to be thrown in his honor that day, far too young to understand.

Wednesday dreaded the inevitable hours of forced social interaction.

Xavier secretly dreaded-

"I'll be beside you." She said abruptly as she looked over at him, ".........Today."

"Do you think I'm nervous about seeing him?" Xavier scoffed, "It doesn't matter if he comes or not, the party's about Desmond, not Dad."

Wednesday didn't bother protesting or reasoning one way or the other about the event's possible outcome, instead, she slipped her hand into Xavier's and nodded, "I'll be beside you......either way."

A small smile danced across Xavier's lips as he leaned forward and stole another kiss from her lips.

It struck him as odd that Wednesday would be that loving and thoughtful.

He wouldn't say it out loud, but he wondered if motherhood hadn't begun to soften the icy walls she usually kept firmly in place around her heart.

Later that morning, the event crew Xavier had hired arrived at the Thorpes' mansion and began to turn the house into a place ready to host such a grand party.

Decorations were hung, food was brought in and set up on large tables, chairs were placed.

The live band hired to play in the garden arrived and started their warm up.

While Xavier oversaw the preparations, Wednesday watched from the window with Desmond in her arms.

The baby's black hair seemed an even deeper shade of raven against his black and white striped onesie.

"I'm convinced that you're more like me." Wednesday said to her small son as she watched Xavier from the window.

Desmond put his chubby fist into his tiny mouth as he turned his little head to look at Wednesday.

".......But even if you despise what happens today, just remember, Daddy's worked very hard on this." Wednesday nodded as she gazed into Desmond's large, dark eyes.

Desmond blinked at his mother as he gazed back.

Unlike most little ones his age, he rarely made much of a fuss, especially when he remained safely in Wednesday's arms.

During Desmond's first year of life, news of his arrival as well as his parents' engagement had spread throughout the ranks of both Xavier and Wednesday's family and friends.

By mid afternoon, the Thorpes' mansion had been transformed into a black and white palace.

Balloons and streamers floated through the halls.

The window coverings had been changed to match the event.

Drinks and treats sat on large tables in every room waiting for whatever passerby would choose them.

Out in the estate's garden, extra seating had been placed some distance from the band who  played loudly enough that their music could be heard inside the house.

Many notable members of the art industry had come for the occasion as well as a horde of Addams family members that Xavier had never met.

He watched in fascination as Wednesday introduced one wild character, or cousin, after another.

Enid and Ajax arrived, but Wednesday's parents and Uncle Fester had been among the very first.

Nearly two hours into the party, Xavier struggled not to fall into a sullen heap of disappointment that one very important guest remained absent.

After they managed to end a conversation with Wednesday's distant Uncle Octavio, she walked quickly beside him with Desmond in her arms.

"I'm here, Xavier." She frowned as she reminded her mate, "I'm here beside you."

".........It's fine." Xavier sniffed as a frustrated grimace crossed his handsome face while he looked towards the house and scowled, "He's never cared about me, I don't why I thought my son would be any different."

Desmond wriggled a bit and caused Wednesday  to adjust him while she stood with her back to the house and spoke, "You've done well......Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, even Desmond, I haven't heard him so much as whimper."

"He never does when Mommy holds him." Xavier quipped as he leaned down and stole a kiss from Wednesday's lips.

Although he sensed her initial hesitation as their mouths touched, bracing herself for the humiliation that someone may stumble upon them and see them there, in that mortifying way, Xavier didn't mind in the least.

He needed his mate's support more than ever as he stood surrounded by friends, colleagues, and her family, without so much as a letter of regret from his own-

Their kiss ended when the house's doors that led to the gardens suddenly flung wide open.

Wednesday looked up with a scowl before she noticed the way Xavier's eyes widened.

As she turned around, she watched a man she did not recognize stroll through the open doors and down the stone steps as his striking, blue eyes scanned the grounds in front of him.

Bedie him, he led a tall, beautiful, brown-haired woman with charming lips and violet eyes.

A shocked smile of blatant disbelief covered Xavier's face before he grabbed Wednesday by the arm.

Desmond and Wednesday both blinked as she stumbled along while Xavier pulled them towards the couple.

Wednesday's dark eyes had narrowed to slits by the time she and Xavier completed their journey.

In curious suspense, she watched Xavier throw his arms around the woman before he pulled away and exclaimed, "I.......I can't believe you're......you're here......you're....."

"I am, sweetheart." The woman said with a kind smile as she laid a hand on Xavier's cheek.

"This.....this...." Xavier stammered as he quickly introduced his little family, "This is my mate, Wednesday, and our son, Desmond."

As the woman flashed another smile of genuine kindness, Wednesday's eyes widened as Xavier introduced the couple, "Wednesday, this is my dad, Vincent." He said as he and his father exchanged nods, "And this," He proudly declared as he turned back to the woman, "........Is Mia Thorpe, my mom."
