—————————————————————Wednesday frowned as she squinted into the blinding light.
Birds chirped a happy little song somewhere above her as the warm sunshine heated her black and white dress.
She raised a hand to shield her eyes from the sudden starkness before she slowly stood to her feet.
Across an open field, a long table stood waiting with chairs ready for guests and piles of refreshments strung across its wooden top.
Accustomed to visions where she witnessed fragments of history, Wednesday scowled as she pondered where she could possibly have traveled and what it meant.
Alone in the field, she hesitantly walked towards the table.
A breeze blew to send the smell of fresh grass and wildflowers rippling past her.
She turned her head in the wind's direction for a split second and by the time she looked back, a tall stranger stood in front of her.
Xavier, but not Xavier.
"I've seen you before." Wednesday snapped accusingly.
"You have." The man confirmed.
She narrowed her eyes as she picked apart the details of his features, mentally sorting which ones belonged to her and which to Xavier.
".........You're my son?" Wednesday asked.
"I am." He answered.
She raised an eyebrow.
"Have you brought me here because you're angry that I thought about killing you?" Wednesday asked.
"No." The man frowned, "I brought you here because my daughters are angry."
Wednesday frowned as the breeze blew again.
Once the wind passed, beside the man stood two little girls with identical, black dresses and dark hair braided into pigtails.
"That's the mean lady, Daddy?" One little girl asked as she slipped her hand into the man's, "The mean lady who wants to kill us?"
"That's your grandmother." The man answered.
"Why do you want to kill my daddy?" The second little girl asked Wednesday, "He hasn't done anything to you."
She expected the child to show emotion, but the second twin remained as deadpan as her.
"............Why?" The second twin repeated.
".........I already told them to call it off. I'm not going to kill your father." Wednesday frowned.
"If you kill us, you won't have much fun after you die." The other twin threatened with an ominous scowl, "We'll make sure of that."
"Oh, really?" Wednesday snapped, "How is that?......If I kill you, you won't exist."
"We already do." The twins chorused in unison.
"No you don't." Wednesday frowned.
"I think you're too late." The man frowned, "They've already put the mask on your face, it's over now."
A sudden, creeping horror Wednesday had not expected washed over her without warning.
As she stared at her son and granddaughters, their faces began to wrinkle, age...and rot away before her eyes.
"It's not too late!" She stammered as she took a step back.
The decaying trio stood perfectly still and watched as she turned from them to race towards the table.
