Thank you for reading! I don't own any of Wednesday! Please let me know if you enjoy! Updates every Saturday!
—————————————————————Wednesday drew a deep breath as she laid on her side while Mia's soft, skillful hands slid over her bare back.
The oil on her midwife's palms felt warm and the pressure from her touch soothed her more than she cared to acknowledge.
Xavier noticed his wife bit her lip to avoid groaning as he sat on the bed in front of Wednesday and held her hand in his.
"Could be any day now." Mia said with a pleasant smile, "........Do you feel ready yet, my dear?"
"I've been ready for weeks." Wednesday grouched.
Xavier glanced up to give his mother a grateful smile as Wednesday kept her eyes closed.
"Do you want to take a little longer on the walk today?" Xavier asked, "It's supposed to be nice out."
"How thick will the clouds be?" Wednesday asked without opening her eyes.
Xavier couldn't help but chuckle at himself for temporarily forgetting his wife's austere preferences as he contemplated the bright light the forecasted sunlight would surely provide.
"Actually, the weather is going to be pretty bad today." He corrected his earlier claim to Wednesday.
She gave his hand a gentle squeeze as Mia put more pressure on her aching spine.
At that moment, Wednesday could have cared less if the weather had been hot or cold, rainy or dry.
She just wanted to get outside and complete her daily walk with Xavier.
Since the due date Mia estimated had arrived and left a week earlier, Wednesday had done everything possible to induce labor.
Whether or not the sky decided to provide her with a cooling, clouded background, Wednesday wanted to do her usual two miles to make certain she would give her body yet another afternoon of physical activity.
As she listened to Mia and Xavier talk, she couldn't help but wonder......how many hours of walking was it going to take?
Her thoughts faded as an overwhelming wave of nauseating drowsiness washed over her like a sinister sickness.
Wednesday opened her eyes as she half sat up and blurted out, "I need to sleep."
Xavier and Mia blinked.
Mia's ministrations stopped the instant her patient moved.
"Certainly." Mia nodded as she moved away and smiled at Xavier.
"Mom......" Xavier huffed as he glanced nervously from his heavily pregnant wife to his mother, silently asking for help or at least some sort of reassurance.
"It's alright!" Mia laughed as she stood and nodded, "We do what she wants, remember? If she wants to nap, then let her nap. She'll know when it's time to do something else."
As Mia turned to leave the room, Xavier reached towards her and shouted, "Don't go! Don't...go! What if she starts hurting?!"
"Well, she most likely will.....soon, son." Mia said with a knowing chuckle, "And when she does, I'll be right downstairs, alright? Try not to shout so, the calmer she is, the easier this will be."
Before Xavier could argue further, Mia left the room just as Wednesday pulled the covers over herself with a sigh and closed her eyes.
Her breathing became so steady and deep that Xavier hated to say anything and risk waking her from her doze.
