After a long few weeks of relentlessly burying myself in books, we finally have our first sparring class in tournament style. While most of the matches go on, Ruby and I chat about the upcoming festival. Meeting people from the other kindoms, mostly. I've heard Vaccuo is pretty much lawless, while Atlas is under an iron rule. The range of people, it's so...

"Exciting!" Ruby exclaims.

"Scary," I mutter under my breath.

She laughs a little at me, giving me a soft punch in the arm, "Oh c'mon! I'm sure it won't be that bad, we may meet lifetime friends from other kingdoms!!"

"Maybe, I guess. Still, I don't do very well around new people, especially large crowds. It's... suffocating."

Ruby hums at that, thinking about what to say next.

Before she can try to continue and convince me further, Glynda calls me to face another student. Dove Bronzewing of team CRDL.

I sigh, "Hold that thought. I'll be right back."

I hear him say something to his team and laugh. Whatever. Let's just make it quick.

We both get up onto the stage and face each other. He holds his sword out with a confident posture. Meanwhile I have my hands still stuffed in my pockets..

Goodwitch then explains the rules. Tournament style. No bodily harm. Simple enough.

She raises a hand, and he takes a lower stance, getting ready to lunge at me.

"You may begin!" She shouts, lowering her hand and getting off the stage.

At the signal, he dashes forward. Making a wide swing for my chest as a first move. I backstep his strike, and he finds nothing but air with his blade. He growls a little at this, and takes another swing, this time for my head, which I duck under effortlessly. He smiles at me through his guard, and tries to bring his sword down on top of me. Once again though, I very easily bounce out of the way, jumping to my left and sliding to a halt in the center of the stage.

He's slow.

Dove gets visibly frustrated now, and charges me with malice in his eyes. I bring my right hand from my pocket and draw Finality. He makes an attempt to stab me, which I sidestep, then he raises his sword high, and attempts to slash my chest diagonally.

I huff a sigh, and parry his strike, sending his arms upward with momentum. He looks at me with a deep look of shock, and tries to recover his balance. Before he can though, I amp my legs with my semblance, and deliver a strong kick to his chest. Sending him careening across the stage onto his back, his weapon flying out of his hand. I zip toward him after this, and hold my blade inches away from his chest piece, "Yield."

He looks at me with a look of pure anger, but after a moment or two, he puts his hands up, and the bell goes off to signal the end of the match.

Talk about an uneven match.

We stand in the center of the stage with Goodwitch in between us, "A perfect example as to why you can't let your temper get the better of you, Dove. After you were seeing nothing but red, Y/n took advantage of your blind rage and disarmed you. Do try and keep your wits about you."

I smile at her dismantling of Dove's attitude, and after she dismisses us, I go to sit beside Ruby again. The whole team staring at me in awe.

Blake is the first to speak, "Y/n, that was-"

"Awesome!!" Yang interupts, "You made him look like an idiot! How'd you learn how to move like that??"

I feel my face get a little red in response to the praise of my team, and look away, rubbing the back of my neck, "Oh... Uh, well, I'll explain it some other time."
